  1. There was a local Narc Squad/Swat guy shooting with us that night who had just gotten back from a three day Detroit raid-fest replete with flash-bangs and indoor shotgun discharges, and even he bitched about the blast. :)

  2. Sorry for the confusement. (yes I made it up)

I meant third in line all day, just as a general "not up right away, but soon" kinda thing.

I was telling Flex on the way home that I wasn't nervous at all during our Sunday match. I was fairly consistent, only made one dumb mistake, and tried Piatt's tip of just enjoying being outside and not at work.

Even though the box can be nerve-wracking, it beats the desk easily.

Also, since I recently squeaked into production A-class and have a LONG way to go for the M card, I didn't get classifier-itis. (I made that one up, too)

Look at the trees, they are comforting.

  3. I shot a .40 minor in several matches with my E2, and did quite well with it.

I almost thought I preferred it over the 9, til I did an a/b comparison. The 9 is a little more "I don't know what" at the same power factor. Could be the bore size and the rotational something or other...

My load was 3.6 grains straight clays under a 165, and it is a nice soft load.

    (Warning, extremely obvious statement ahead)

The great thing about the 40 is you can use the same gun for lim. 10 if you want...

Is it a compromise? Maybe. But you will gain some versatility, though factory ammo is way more, and bullets are a litle pricier.

600 for an LTT E2 is a steal at any caliber.

One other thought about the Beretta...All this talk about lighter slides on open guns is to lower reciprocating mass. Now, look at the beretta slide. (Erik, we can agree to disagree, right? :))

  4. If it's a 92 fs, that front sight is permanent.

Vertec or Brigadier slides can be fitted with a different front sight, but the Military insisted on a permanent front sight for the m9/92fs.

    Rears are no big deal.

On the XD, the trigger reset is halfway between the LDA and the Beretta. It feels like a smoother Kahr trigger with a tad less reset than the Kahr. I was very aware of the reset when shooting it fast.

I bet the springfield custom shop could fix that...

You need to decide whether you want the same OK trigger for each shot, or a heavier first shot and then a light crisp SA pull after that.

My E2s are 2.75 lbs SA, 7 lbs DA

An OD Green 5" XD would be envy inducing though...

  5. As we try to reduce tension and stress at the match, with the goal of being as relaxed as possible on the line, I'd be interested in what everybody does while waiting to shoot.

I've been a top dog watcher, scoping the good guys and ignoring the so-so shooters so  bad ideas can't take hold...but this has got me into a liitle trouble lately as I tried to emulate some runs that were out of my current skill level.

I think this weekend I'll try to enjoy being outside, paste more targets and ignore everyone else's runs.

I think that once a strategy is set, changing it based on what someone else does can be counter-productive for me. I have a lot to learn, but I have learned that a SOLID, sure bad plan is often better than a shaky, unsure good plan of attack.

So, you're third in line, what do you do all day?

BTW, p.s.b.f. addresses this by stating that you don't really know anything about a run by someone else that looked spectacular...

  6. I did the TGO steel transition drill in dry fire, and within 5 minutes my eyes were leading the gun nicely, and the gun settled in right behind the eyes automatically.

Got a light headache after this mini-trance, but it was very enlightening as to the speed of coordination that is possible.

  7. Get the BERETTA!

The vertec Elite 1a will be a G model, decocker only, and have a lighter, faster cycling slide than the Elite II.

Send that puppy to Ernest Langdon (langdontactical.com), and get the competition level two trigger, and you'll have a 7lb DA, 3lb SA production winnin' machine.

I would also get the all black novaks, I just don't like a three dot sight picture.

I also like the springfield, but the trigger reset is long, compared to the Beretta. It does fit the hand nicely and shoots well.

I've never felt a smoothed HK, but the DA shot is too important for it not to be perfect.

  8. The force is strong in this one...feels good, don't it?

I had a cool moment shooting steel with a dot last saturday, and just zingin' IPSC poppers and seeing the ones I just hit fall like dominoes behind the ones I was hitting. It was like the whole thing was pre-ordained and I just had to hit the play button... Neat. I had to have been calling those shots because they fell so slow I couldn't wait to see the hits to move on.

  9. What does it look like?

I've been putting both elbows forward with both hands just above the shoulders, but this may have excessive shoulder movement.

I watched "how to shoot fast and accurately" for the 50th time, and benos seems to start with his right shoulder and elbow already back a little.

This seems to eliminate some movement at the buzzer, especially for a strong side gun as opposed to appendix placement.

I tried both tonight and did feel that having the shoulder back made it smoother.

    What do you do?

  10. I actually tend to do better after a bad stage. I can usually pinpoint what happened and make the correction immediately.

A bigger problem for me is getting Lazy/Cocky/sloppy after a really good stage. I start thinking everything is easy and sometimes screw up.

    Correction:

I used to do that...not anymore.

  11. Somewhat similar...

I was running the timer at Saturday's steel match when the shooter's .22 misfired. He pulled the bolt on the ruger and I caught the ejected cartridge with my left hand (I was holding the timer with the right) as it flew over his head. I saw the cartridge out of the corner of my eye and caught it without looking over from the steel targets I was watching for hits.

No way I could TRY to do that.

I'm kinda Klutzy most of the time, but my hand/eye is gettin' pretty sharp lately.

(It also shut up my squad mates who were ribbing me because I said I could see the streak of their bullets occasionally.)

It's amazing what you can see
