  1. I don't think it's a women vs men type of issue. What I've noticed appears to be based on familiarity. The "usual suspect RO's" have been out there FOREVER! I've seen Brian at every major match I've attended since I started shooting in 1997! I know I can razz, tease and generally be a jerk to him without fear.

I've RO'ed at Area 6 three times and the nationals twice. The shooters don't know *yet* what they can get away with when I'm on the clock.

    Capiche ;)

  2. I am a firm believer in "You get what you pay for" and radar / laser detectors are not the kind of item you buy the "cheapest" model just to save $100. I know it sounds like alot ($150) but you'll be glad you spent the extra money.

Neither of the models I'm considering are cheap. They are both the absolute top of the line. They both CLAIM to function the same. I was hoping someone here could explain to me the $150 difference. My gut feeling is that the Valentine is overpriced for no good reason!

  3. The key to using a detector effectively is making sure you have a "pigeon." Let yourself get passed by someone who's going about as fast as you want them to go, then let them run ahead while you follow. Driving 20 over all by your lonesome is not the smart way to do it.

Oh, um, 20 over?!?! Too skeered for that. I keep it at 15 over cause I think I heard somewhere *they* are less likely to add on/trump up the ticket.

  4. Kathy,

Do the LEOs in your area use Laser? If so, nothing will help. I learned the hard way last week. Our City PD just converted to Laser (a very advanced one). The officer got me and I never got a peep out of the radar detector. He told me that the laser is emitting a beam that is 8 inches wide at 300yds. He aimed at the grill of the vehicle and the signal never came near the detector. He told me he had pulled people with all kinds of detectors and they never had a chance. Bummer. I just learned that our Highway Patrol will be getting them soon, too. :o Take care.

I know Ohio uses Laser, cause MY ONLY speeding ticket EVER was in Ohio by a patrolman with a Laser. He wrote the serial number and last calibration date on the ticket!!!! Twas not that big of a deal, it was a whopping $68.00 :) However, because I'm using an *OLD* detector now... I happen to know that Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia all *bleed* some sort of radar off of their vehicles  As do my local Sherriff and city police cars. So if the new ones pick up that "bleed" sooner, I'm still good!

  5. JP Tank Brake

    Krieger Barrel

    JP Adj. gas block

    JP/V-Tac Handguard

    Mid-Length gas system

    Larue Stealth/Vltor/CTR-02 upper

    JP Stainless carrier

    Colt bolt

    Magpul lower

    ACOG

    Harris bipod

    Beta Mag

Black and Yellow Bumblebee scheme paint job.

That's pretty close to what I've come up with John! Except the it looks like I'm gonna use a SureFire comp, a carbon handguard and an Accupoint :)

Oh - and my dream paint job is Kattitude stripes (OF COURSE!)

If you go with a 16", get with Mike Pinto on becoming a Carbine Cousin.

    Rich

No IF on the 16" - that is the one of 2 things I'm set on - the other being a Krieger barrel. Oh - and I have the stock picked out :)

    Hey Kat,

I know what you mean. My 16"er will be either a mid or rifle length. Just a little sketchy on the FL gas on a SHORT barrel. But if it works, I'm there. As for a Krieger barrel, that's not a real need. Oly Arms SS Ultramatch barrels are pretty sweet and cheap. DPMS barrels aren't bad either. My point being, that there are a lot of good barrels, especially for 3-Gun under $250.

    Rich

How much do the Oly Arms barrels weigh? I picked Krieger 'cause they'll MAKE me a SS 16" with flutes and threads :0

  7. The Ohio folks are some of the greatest people to work and/or shoot with...I wouldn't miss this match for the world. Gotta help out our "neighbors" dontchyaknow. ;) They are always there for us!!! Besides, the match itself is awesome, and the pizza and BYOB bash with bonfire are a great way to meet and talk to all the shooters and other staff during your "downtime". B)
And don't forget to bring pants :P
  8. Only the greatest race that the Indianapolis Speedway holds... the U.S. Grand Prix! Wow, they actually have to slow down and speed up and make right turns?!? All the other major races there only involve left turns. The sound of an F1 engine revving up to 20,000 rpm is absolutely incredible (I am actually shooting the match on Fri. so I can go to the race).

Oh - I went to the speedway's site and thought it said the grand prix was in April, the 500 is in May and the Brickyard 400 is in July!

  9. I'm still having moments of brilliance, ala my stage win last year at the Nationals. But dammit - there's bigger baggers than me out there! (see Area 6 Stage 11 and Stage 5)

Turtle had a problem on Stage 1... I can NOT figure out how it took me 30 seconds to run that stage... was I victim of the clock as well? How would I know? 30 seconds USED to be normal?!?!?! I should have insisted right then and there that that was not the right time - but trust is still a big issue with me.

I'm facing a month at home alone while my husband travels - will I be able to practice, stay focused and go shooting without my best friend and shooting partner?!?!

I think better when I write it down :) I'm open to comments and help with these "little" issues!
