  1. USASkeet, Nice job opening up the port. Did you consider cutting off some of the Dave's Metal Works easy loader? I cut some of mine off to give more clearance for the lead shotshell on a load 2. The lead shell would sometimes hit the top edge (when the shotgun is flipped over) of the port opening into the magazine.
  2. I shoot mostly club level 3-gun matches, and the Remington 1100 is great for that. If I was not able to open up the loading port to do dual/quad loads on the 1100, I'd probably would be shooting a Stoeger 3000, Mossberg JM Pro, or Beretta 1301 competition. Another thing I did is open up the two gas ports in the barrel with a drill bit to allow more gas to cycle the action. I clean the barrel, gas ports, and action bar after every practice or match for this gun does not run well while dirty. I also carry extra gas O rings. With all this, my 1100 does shoot Remington reduced recoil slugs and Wal-mart sold ammo with no issues.
  3. Cool, that is very helpful. I actually ordered an extra Remington pin as I had heard the roll pin sucks. On the pin: do I just grind/file it flush? I have it hanging just out a bit. I guess by filing it it leaves a little "gall" (not sure if correct term) to keep it from coming out? I am leaning towards shortening the EL a bit, too. I have my pin hanging out just a little bit. There was a sharp edge on the pin, so I filed it down just a tad. I have never heard of the pin backing out on any Remington 1100's, but you never know.
  4. I used a Dremel tool with sanding drum attachment to take off some of the metal on the sides and front of the loading port. I took it down as close as I can to the interceptor and feed latches. I also had to open up the feed tube just a little bit. I then sand smooth the exposed metal of the loading port and polished the metal with the Dremel tool. I cut the Easy loader and rounded out the fingers so I don't get my fingers pinched. BTW, the roll pin that Dave's Metal Works supplies with the Easyloader broke on me. So, I had to re-use the stock pin from Remington and never had that problem since.
  5. These are ready out of the box Western Arms SV Infinity gas blow back pistols. The Infinity with the Schuemann comp is the cheapest way (in my opinion) to an open pistol. The Infinity Expert is my Limited pistol. Both have the stock ABS slides and run on duster gas. I use the Falcon duster gas that you can purchase at any office supply store or Costco.
  6. Hey Flyin40, Thanks so much for stepping forward and setting up these postal matches. How about postal matches using long guns or is that way too complicated since there are AEG and then gas powered rifles, etc? I use a Classic Army M15A4 as a long gun trainer.
  7. Hey, we should get more of the members from AAPS to sign up! Flyin, forgive me for asking, but are you using AAPS targets or IPSC targets? Also, any idea on how to build a makeshift wall? I was thinking of standing up a long folding table, but I only have one.
  8. In the ICORE rulebook, it states that: SECTION 5 EQUIPMENT 1. All firearms used in ICORE matches must be revolvers with a .32 magnum caliber or greater and in sufficiently safe condition. All firearms are subject to inspection and approval by the Match Director or Range Officers. If that is the case, how come the shooter in this pic is using a semi-auto? http://www.cbshooters.com/gallery/ICORE_02...ges/image48.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Also, is a six-shot revolver good enough to compete or should a shooter use a 7- or 8-shot revolver? Any input about this is greatly appreciated.
  9. How many times do you shoot your .38 super comp (or even .38 super) and .40 S&W brass before you toss them out? Or what's the recommended number of times? Does it depend on the manufacturer and the load? What are the more subtle signs that a piece of brass is bad other than a cracked case?
  10. Thanks! Okay, let's take this one step further, what about the UPPER parts of the 1911 and 2011 frame gun? Guide rod? Sear? Hammer? Extractor? Safety?
  11. Just out of curiosity, which parts of a 1911 and a 2011 frame gun can be used in both? Just drop in parts, not the ones that need fitting.
  12. What's the stock spring weight of the STI Edge? What spring weight do you other shooters use? Also, does lengthening the OAL of the .40 S&W to 1.200 do anything to reduce recoil? I load .40S&W for other guns with a OAL of 1.135 and they fed fine in the Edge, but recoil is a BEITCH! I'm too cheap to buy a Recoil Master or Sprinco recoil reducer so I'd thought I'd change the recoil spring to a heavier one to dampen the recoil. Any help is greatly appeciated!
  13. Does anyone have a Zanotti Safe or know of them? Here is their website: http://www.zanottiarmorsafes.com/ What are you likes, dislikes, stories, etc.? Any help is greatly appreciated!
  14. Yes, I know that the Ultimate Ghost Holster is out...but just out of curiosity... Can you use a Ghost Holster with a 2011 (STI or SV) gun WITHOUT drilling a hole in the trigger guard? What will happen if you don't? Dropped gun when the buzzer goes off? Can you grind down the pin using a Dremel?
  15. What tools are needed for the front sight installation besides a brass punch, a small hammer, and some light grit sandpaper? Any tips and techniques are greatly appreciated.
  16. I got a pair of Radians Pro-amps which are identical to the Dillon HP-1. However, I started to get static in the left ear muff (never on the right). It comes and goes and the static is not always there. I was wondering if any of you have that problem with other brands as well.
  17. I was wondering if Remington was going to sell the parts to the Competition Master. I was thinking of upgrading my 1100 to the CM's specs. And I got this response from Remington: Response (S. Nations) - 04/16/2003 02:24 PM Dear Sir/Madame: Welcome to Remington Country! Whenever we produce a new configuration, such as the Competition Master, we don't sell the parts for a while so that we can do the repairs and track any problems that they may have. We don't look for these parts to be available for sale for the rest of this year just for tracking purposes. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. We thank you for your inquiry. Have a great day! Customer (Shooter x10) - 04/16/2003 01:21 PM Hi! I currently have a Remington 1100. I was wondering if you will be selling the parts (stock, barrel, bolt handle, recoil pad, etc.) of the Remington 1100 Competition Master soon on your website. If so, when? I'd like to swap some parts of my 1100 for parts of the Competition Master. Question Reference #030416-000045
  18. I'm interested in getting a mount that mounts a red dot tube mount (Adco, Aimpoint) to a scope. I want to use this for rifle in 3-gun matches. Grams Engineering makes one but I was wondering if any other company makes one as well.
  19. Did anyone see the 60 minutes story about ballistic fingerprinting? They interviewed a VP of Glock Inc and he said "I think the people who, right now, are saying that there's no use for it, that it can't be used, that it's an intrusion upon our freedoms, have arbitrarily drawn a line too soon." Basically he's saying that it's okay for the guvment to keep a ballistic sample of a round fired from every new gun purchased. Most posts on other pro-gun forums are saying this, but did he or was Mr. Januzzo (Glock VP) misquoted by 60 Minutes? Of course, there are ways to alter the "fingerprint." There already two states[?] who use this technique and not ONE has been used to solve a crime. If you want to contact Glock, here is the info: GLOCK Inc. USA, Canada 6000 Highlands Parkway Smyrna, GA 30082 USA Tel.: +1 770 - 432 1202 Fax.: +1 770 - 433 8719 Here is their toll free number: (866) 225-4098 (Edited by shooterx10 at 4:41 pm on Feb. 10, 2003)
  20. HELP! One of the upper grip screws (the one on the right side of the frame) on my STI is stuck! I used an allen wrench to no avail! How do I get it out? I tried using WD40 to loosen it and that didn't work! I'm swapping grips. Also, how do you get the mag release out? Do I just use a small straight screw driver? Any help is appreciated!
  21. I managed to get some of the lead fouling out of my comp! Here is what I did (your results may vary): 1. I put drops of Shooter Choice in the comp and let it soak 2. I then used my Dremel tool with attachment #84922 Sil. Carb. Grinding Stone on the lead fouling at the SLOWEST speed. Or the more fine stone you can find. 3. The lead fell out like sand with no damage to the comp by the grinding stone (because the stone is a light grit) 4. Spray out any lead that didn't come out with Gun Scrubber or an aersol gun cleaner. 5. repeat as necessary until all the lead is out (Edited by shooterx10 at 12:36 pm on Jan. 28, 2003)
  22. For all you STI Edge .40 S&W shooters out there... Do any of you use IMR 4756 or Winchester WSF powders? I load other rounds with these powders and wonder if you have any recipies with these two. Also, what is your OAL of the cartridge? I don't suppose the standard length of 1.135" will work?
  23. I've seen Mr. Shuey's AGI Building a High Capacity 1911 video and even met him at a Reno gun show. He's a very nice guy and his work on raceguns is outstanding. Has anyone used him before? I'm seriously thinking of sending a STI Open to him for hard chroming and as well as maintenance/reliability work.
  24. Ok, I've checked out most of the threads in regards to this but I have several additional questions/comments: I have a used STI Open and the previous owner shot some lead and he didn't bother to clean it. However, the buildup is really bad now. I sprayed Gun Scrubber on the comp (looks similar to the S-2) and used a small copper bore brush to get out the gunk from the two side ports. But here's a bunch of questions: 1. How do I get the gunk out of the three top ports? 2. Will using dental picks damage the interior of the port? I read on another forum that brake cleaner works as well. Is that true? Is there a chemical that will get into the lead/copper and powder gunk to loosen it? Any help is greatly appreciated.
  25. I need to change the grip frame on my STI pistol. Is there a website with instructions on how to do so? Or, do I have to have a qualified gunsmith do this? Any help is appeciated!
