  1. +1 on the Atlanta Arms ammo. I've run a couple thousand rounds of their 147gr. 9mm rounds and never had any issues. Shoots great!

Just getting my 650 up and running and plan to use Precision Delta bullets. I'll have to let you know how they turn out. I've been told by several people that they have some of the best stuff around.

  2. To mimic what everyone else has said already, I really enjoyed myself @ the DTC. Thanks to all the fine folks who put on this event and worked very hard despite the weather we had. This was my first Doubletap experience and surely not my last. I look forward to being there next year to see what Robert has up his sleeve with the Flintstones theme. It ought to be great!

I also want to thank everyone on Squad 24 for an awesome time. Everyone did their part to make this match go smoothly for our squad.

  3. Unfortunately, because of Max's leaving the Army, there is a conflict with this class. When he and I originally discussed this class he did not know of his departure schedule. Now the guys are very willing to do a class, but the timing is not good on this one.

If there is enough interest, the class can be rescheduled.

Thanks for your timely reply. I hate that this did not go through. I only live 45 min. from the range in Byram and would love to attend their class w/o having to travel far and stay in a hotel.

    Thanks!

  4. Production here! G17 for USPSA & Steel. I shoot in Byram with alot of the guys that have already replied. They are a great bunch! I've been kinda MIA for the past couple of months but "I'll Be Back!" next month, hopefully if work will let me! Hope to see you there!

  5. I have an M&P, and if you use the small insert, the gun should have a really nice grip for small hands.

My wife wanted the M&P b/c of small hands. She liked the small grip @ first, but to my surprise she wanted to try the others and actually liked the medium and large grips alot better! I could not believe she liked them better, and she shot somewhat better with the large grips too! Who knew! I guess that goes to show you that you never know what you like or what's good for you until you try it!

  6. Now, I just need to figure out to support their habits along with mine given the price of things these days.....

Amen to that brother! I got my wife into shooting several months back, bought her an M&P b/c of the small grips(she's only 5'-0") and now have bought her the new M&P Pro. Also bought a .22 Buckmark so my oldest daughter (12) could shoot with us also. As much as truly enjoy them shooting with me, IT'S NOT CHEAP! But, worth every minute of it.

  7. Warning: the following lists of companies are not intended to be all-inclusive. If I've left out your favorite, or pet peeve, it's not intentional and there's no need to try to make the list all-inclusive. It's purely to illustrate a point about giving business to the companies that do the most to support our sport(s).

I'd encourage you to support the companies/people that support our sport. You will rarely, if ever, see Kimber, Baer, Nighthawk, Ed Brown, Ruger, etc, sponsor a match or a stage. Companies like STI, SVI, Caspian, S&W and gunsmiths/shops like Brazos, Dawson, Shooters Connection/Bedell, SSI, Millenium Custom, MGM, and many more are at the matches, pony up the goods so we have prize tables and sometimes pony up cash to help clubs afford to hold a match without raising the entry fees we play.

If you can't/don't want to spend the money on a full custom gun I'd say to take a look at what some of those companies/shops/smiths offer and also cross-reference that with the sponsors here on Brian's forums and see if you can make the two match up with what you're looking for.

I needed a .40 SS gun on short notice so I bought a Trojan from one of our sponsors and then bought all new fire control parts, safeties, magwell and mags from other sponsors and sent it off for a trigger job and reliablility package. I went pretty much full bore on it and probably have something like $1600 in it, but it's been crazy accurate and perfectly reliable (it did seem to work perfectly well before I sent it to the smith). The weekend I dropped the gun off with the smith I managed to win my class at Area-2 and got a free 2011 frame from STI, so I felt even better about the Trojan purchase!

+1 on supporting the sponsors, whomever they should be! Without them, where would our sport be?

  8. I've never been concerned about dropping the slide on an empty

chamber, either deliberately or when run dry.

When the slide is on its forward motion, the trigger is disconnected from

the hammer/sear assembly before the slide picks up another round, or

not, as the case may be.

This disconnection continues until the slide is back in battery.

Dropping the slide isn't going to affect anything unless your trigger job was

defective to begin with ie. the sear pops out of the hammer hooks from the impact.

Yeah, but just think how much undue/unnecessary stress you put on your gun. I personally didn't spent all that money to beat the hell out of my gun for no reason! IMHO, it's just to easy to let it ride down with the weak hand.

  9. Well, I'm embarressed to say "I didn't know that". I'm a new handgun owner and nobody ever told me this - and the sales people I've been around just let it clank shut! Learn something new daily on this forum! Thanks!

My wife and I were window shopping for her a new gun by letting her get the feel for several different guns @ our local gun shop and the clerk let the slide fly on every gun he handed us. I cringed every time. Would NEVER buy a gun from them off the shelf. Hell, I would not even use them for FFL, he may fondle my new gun and do the same thing! Just think how many times those "NEW" guns have been slammed down before you buy off the shelf! Just something to think about!

  10. I've shot a couple of matches with my open gun, and decided to pick up a 22. Whose 22's are y'all shooting? My first pick was a Ruger MK II/II, just because of the number no smith parts available. What other guns are being used? Sig Trailside? New Styer? 1911 coversion kits?

Stock buckmark now. Future plans to add TS barrel and red dot. Shots any ammo I feed it. Bulk ammo will have one or two bad apples out of about 100.

  11. I agree with what Duane has recommended.

What are you doing differently when moving vs. standing still?

Not thinking! Relying on instinct to move and shoot vs. standing still & letting someone, ie...brown paper guy.... :angry2: ...shoot back @ me. No, I am not LE or anything but maybe it's my old army days coming out!!! I just feel better moving, I guess you could say "surviving" in the "shootout." After all, isn't that why we initially started doing this, to get training for "Real World Situations?" I am very competitive and the best way I know how to win right now is to move quickly, and most of the time it pays off while on long field coarses, but I just want to run in that damn little tiny shooting box I guess! :roflol:

I've been working on that a little at the house. I just built several new steel plates practicing for the "Outlaw Steel" match that we have @ our club. This should help with my standing still shooting. Also, as others have said, I will be doing some more dryfiring. Matter of fact, since my last post until this one I have been cleaning my new "training" toy that I just picked up after work. This is how I convinced my wife that it was ok.

Me: "Baby look at my new training tool!"

Her: "Looks like it cost toooooo much!" :angry2:

Me: "Noooo! Way! Babe! I got a great deal!!!!!!!!!!

Her: "Whatever!" "I know better!" "You need to quit buying guns!" :angry2:

I just bought a Browning Buckmark .22 LR. It is sweet. Can't wait to go ding some steel with it tomorrow when I get home. Now it's time to pimp it out with a new TS barrel and a C-More for training purposes of course!!! LOL!

  12. :surprise: Wow! Thanks for all the advice. I will start dryfiring more often. I have done alot of standing reload practice and it really seemed to help, but it just seems that when I stand still and shoot my body wants to go...go...go and my fingers, eyes and brain just won't keep up! I'll keep working on it though. I am shooting a local USPSA match tomorrow and hopefully I can get some of this sorted out. Not sure how most of ya'll that have been shooting for a while are, but I still get that can't stand/sit still anxiousness before I shoot. I seem to do alot better when I am the first shooter on a stage. Keeps the brain from thinking to much! LOL! Thanks again for all your responses.
  13. I am a C class shooter and have been shooting for about 9 months. I have been doing very well, but I have noticed that on stages that require no movement, ie...standing in one spot and shooting..... I don't do as well. My hits seem to be off and my reloads are almost always blotched. When I am on a long, running, shootem' up stage I seem to do very well and like them a lot more. My reloads while moving seem flawless and I just feel more comfortable. Does anyone else have this problem? Any advice will be appreciated!------ <_<

  14. Anyone know anything about an AMT Lightning? I was told there was a copyright law enfringement back in the 80's w/ Ruger. It looks to be an exact copy of the 22/45 or MK series. My buddy has one and was telling me they were the same or better b/c it's all stainless steel. Anyone know?
