  1. Maybe this is a hijacking (of the thread), maybe not.

I was wondering about something similar. Doesn't anyone worry about their carry-on going through the 'sniffer' at the airports? I've had my computer bag swabbed with a small patch and run into a sniffer machine many times. It might cost you a missed flight and some time in the back room to explain why your range bag / carry-on popped positive for nitrocellulous based explosives (aka, powder residue). Furthermore, my luggage has been searched by dogs many times (usually looking for fruit/plants in customs), and they might be trained to smell some explosives too.

I've always been very careful to not use my range backpack as a luggage when I travel because I'm really worried about setting off an alarm. Am I crazy, or should I be concerned? Any TSO people out there? Anyone who knows about the 'sniffers' ?

I've been told the machine sniffs for HE residue (i.e. plastic explosive, etc, etc) and not low volume stuff like gun powder.

Yeah, it will pick up plastic explosive residue! I was traveling for work several years ago and went through the screening at an airport in Florida. I was carrying my old Army duffle bag because it would lock and is very durable. WELL, what I failed to think about was that I used to be a Combat Engineer in the Army whose main purpose in life is to BLOW shit up! Well, needless to say, I had used that duffle bag before in the field to carry C-4 in on training missions, which in turn left a little residue behind! :surprise: Well, after an hour or so convincing the authorities that I was not going to blow up a perfectly good airplane, and explained the whole story to them, they let me repack my bag and continue on my trip home. Needless to say I do NOT take that bag in airports anymore!!!!! Sorry to drift, just wanted to impart my infinite wisdom on all of you! :roflol:

  2. 17? your just getting started :D

Well, call me anal but I bought a cheap 3 drawer tool chest and organized them that way. I shoot 3-gun, open, limited, production and revolver, and its a good thing revolvers don't have mags cause I don't know where I'd keep em.

Top drawer is STI-SV open and limited along with Para and STI 22 convertion mags in the back

Second drawer is single stack and Glock mags

    3rd drawer is AR15/10, M14, 9mm AR and 10/22 mags.

Nice setup! I never thought of that.

  3. just frustrating i have to wait till july for another shoot locally, but gives me a chance to find a new sight till then

You don't have to wait....Just jump in the car for a weekend getaway. I'm sure you can find a match within a few hours drive. I have to drive minimum 1 hour to get to the nearest match.

  4. Like someone else has mentioned "Mental Walk-through." The thing that helps me most is after I have decided what and how to shoot everything, I get away from everyone, close my eyes and run the coarse through my head. Once I have done this a few times, it's burned in and has helped my shooting dramatically. It took me a while to figure out why I was hesitating while shooting a COF, but one day I noticed a GM junior friend of mine doing this and it sparked something in my head about what he was doing. Ever since then it has helped me.

  5. Hats off to John!!!!!!!!

I certainly agree that John deserves a round of applause or beer!!!! John, I certainly enjoyed this year's match. It definitely lived up to my expectations. I just wish I lived a little closer and was able to help out more. Many thanks go out to "winnder licker" and all the other staff that helped work the biggest MS Classic to date. Also many more thanks go out to the vendor's, I know my whole family got to sit in the seat and get our ears full of silicone. Those are some great earplugs. Food was once again, Great!

And thanks to the rain that must be what brought me my "stroke of luck" after getting a division change and still walking away with a prize.

  6. Anyone know if it would be to late to register Friday afternoon or Saturday morning? I still don't know if I have to work Sat. or not and would love to come shoot this match.

No, it's not too late. Sign up at the door if you want.

    Ron

Cool! One more question, Is there directions to the range posted anywhere?

    http://casarange.com/map.htm

Thank you very much! I hope to see everyone there if I don't have to work Saturday!

  7. +1 on the 9mm Glock. Doesn't feel right for most people who are used to 1911 style guns but after you shoot a couple hundred/thousand rounds through one, you'll get used to it. I shoot a Glock 17, works great for me, but I know alot of people who prefer the G34 b/c it's a 5". Either way, great guns IMHO! Just remember, They seem to almost always go Bang!
