  1. I have chamfered the cylinder chambers as per the pics here on the forum and I think I am good. I know re-gripping the gun is huge, the big butt grip I bought helps me get my hands back in the right place. Especially my weak hand.

  2. Revoman - the drop in. I use the JM reload and am happy with that. Should I toss the moon clips? Place them? Push them in? Should the gun be absolutely pointed at the ground or at an angle? Should it be down by my belt or coming up to meet the moonclip? I,m probably over thinking this.

Van - I have three dummy moonclips . I draw and aim at a 1/3 scale piece of cardboard in the shape of a pepper popper watching my sight picture then reload three times aiming at the popper between reloads. I try to get 10 in a row. I take a break when I get pooped.

  3. Hi guys. My name is Rick and I am gonna shoot revolver this  year and for the foreseeable future. I have mostly shot flat guns and am classified in SS, Production and Limited. I have always wanted to shoot revolver but the major power factor put me off a bit. Though I did shoot ESR in IDPA a long time ago and shot well with a 610 and 625. I own an Apex  tuned 625. I just bought a 627 5 inch. I put in an Apex hammer and firing pins, wolf mainspring and 11lb rebound spring and polished things up with JM's help. I did not touch the Apex hammer. My trigger pull is very smooth and light. It feels much like the action on my Apex 625. My trigger pull gauge died so I don't know what the pull actually is. I set the strain screw at the range shooting 38spl without using moonclips. I am led to understand that was a mistake as I was .025 farther away from the firing pin. So using my moonclips I could back out the strain screw another half turn or so, do I have that right? I'll go back to the range and see about that.

I have 1000 147 Blue Bullets, 7+ lbs of N320 and 25lbs of CSB-1. 1000 Starline .38 short colt brass. I also have around 38k small Federal primers. So I put together a load with my SDB using a 38 sizing die and shell plate, 9mm powder funnel, seating die and crimp die. I can manage a crimp of .374-5 and that seems to work fine. So I loaded up the short colt brass with 3.4 grains of N320 at 1.170 using the 147 Blues and fed. primers. I figured that is a good place to start with the chrono. If I am light then I will move the bullet deeper carefully to make minor.

I spoke to Dillon about setting up my 650. I told them I wanted to load short and long colt. They said to use a 38 sizing die, 9mm funnel and 38 super seating and crimp dies with a 38 shell plate. Right now it is set up in .40. I should need little else. What do you think of that?

I have gobbled up just about all the info in the Revo forum and am glad to finally jump in instead of just lurking, Ha. I will need support and fellowship as I will almost certainly be the  only revo shooter where I shoot at Linea de Fuego and sometimes Norco in SoCal.

Anyway that's me, thanks for listening.

  4. So I have been shooting titegroup with 200gr Bear Creek Moly coated bullets for a while with my .40 sight tracker. I recently picked up a nice .40 bushing stirrup cut SV and using the same load I find that there is a lot more snap in the front end. Tried doing the tungsten guide rod thing to put some more weight up front. Because I can get bear creek moly bullets for cheap and I have a ton of them, I am looking to switch powders and see if that will help it shoot flatter. Someone at the range told me to use Universal Clays. Of course I forgot who that was so I can not get any load data from them. Can anyone help me out with a recipe for shooting 200 Bear Creek with Universal Clays? Just bought a 1 lb jug to test. Thanks.

I made major with 4.3 of Universal Clays out of a 5in Schuemann. At 1.190, with a 200gn Bear Creek. The longer you load the more powder you are going to need.

  5. I don't have it yet. It should arrive shortly. Thanks.

Do you have any 170mm .40 mags? I think I saw one earlier in the classifieds.

    I like your avatar.

Less us know how you like it once it comes in.

Thanks, as soon as I get it I will post a picture. 140s

  6. Mr Kelso,

If the gun won't be legal for limited for a whole year, you could always shoot it internationally or shoot it in open. Open guns are fun.

BTW, how do you like your 5.5" gun?

I don't have it yet. It should arrive shortly. Thanks.

  7. Brandon Strayer can tell you that >500 have been made. But as Chuck said, it's not legal until the paperwork has been submitted and NROI has officially ruled it legal.

I know all that already. But what does that look like? Would they post it on the USPSA website? Is it a footnote in the rule book? Where, when and how does it become public knowledge?

    Please explain.

    Thanks

  8. Every full length open gun is a 5.4 inch barreled gun. The SVI five and a half is really just a non threaded open barrel.

I was assured in Oct. the 5.5in. gun IS legal. Just a matter of paper work being submitted. I would assume by now that paper work has been submitted. Mine is a bushing gun so I cannot speak for the sight tracker version. The rule change for Limited/L10 seems to answer any remaining questions.

Who assured you? I'm fairly certain no paperwork has been submitted. Until it is, or 2013, it ain't legal. In 2013, assuming the world doesn't end, which if you read the thread that is almost solely about the Production pull limit it will, you'll be fine.

  10. Lots of good stuff but I would point out that

"It does run great but I'm wondering if I can make it run better" is usually followed by postings in the "What's wrong with my gun?" part of the internet, sometimes followed by postings in the "Gun for sale" part.

    Dryfire. Livefire. Repeat.

Go to the Brazos website and read the article on just this very subject. You may find it helpful. I did.

  11. Any one have load data for 40 Major in a Glock 20 with a KKM 40s&w bbl? I have a 1000rd of Starline brass and Federal small primers. Looking what Bullets and powder would make a good major load.

    Thanks

  12. The stock barrel does the same thing. As a matter of fact it actually caused the gun to freeze up.

Tonight when I go to the range I am gonna install my barrel and guide rod in the rental G20 they have and see what happens.

The slide to frame fit seems pretty tight.

I put my X6 glasses on and can clearly see that the stirrup where the barrel should sit is ever so slightly angled downward.

  13. I'll post a pic for drill.

Though the thought had crossed my mind that maybe it is only popping up when I remove the slide.

    Am I being stupid?

  14. I did a search on this, I hope I am not wearing out your patience out there.

I have a G20 with a KKM .40S&W conversion barrel and a .40 ejector installed. It shoots great. I intend to use it in Limited after the Area 2 Single Stack Classic. Anyway.

After just one full cycle, fast or slow. The guide rod jumps up and rests in the notch above the stirrup where it is supposed to sit. Every time. I noticed this when I take off the slide. It does not affect how it shoots at all. Accuracy is great. No malfs.

I am using a tungstun guide rod.

This happens with every guide rod, spring or barrel configuration I can create with what I have. The only thing I don't own for it is a captured spring and guide rod system.

It happens worse with the 10mm factory barrel. It actually jambs.

That is all I can think to tell you.

    Your thoughts are much appreciated.

    Rick
