  1. I never clean off case lube.

I tried to tumble loaded rounds once in corn cob to make them shiny and they got a corn cob granule stuck in each hollow point.

Never really saw the point anyway.

One thing I have done is to wipe them in a silicone rag after loading. Makes 'em feel slicker. Still do that occasionally but don't think it's a real issue.

  2. I've just started reloading 69 grain ammo for use in 3-gun. I have read some posts about 2700 fps being an optimal velocity for accuracy. I started with a friend's data and worked up some loads that seemed accurate (< 1 moa at 100 yards) and when I went to chrono I was surprised to find velocity at 2500-2600 fps.

I really need to load some more and test it out extensively at 2-300 yards which is the average high for the 3-gun matches I shoot locally. Before I do I had a couple questions:

    The data is:

    JP CTR-2 18" 1/8 Wylde barrel

    69 grain smk

    2.255 +/- .005

    CCI SRP

    Benchmark 22.4-22.7 grains

    22.7 avg 2588

    22.4 avg 2501

    Questions:

Is there a minimum velocity for 3 gun accuracy?

Is there any reason to try to push the bullets closer to 2700?

If so, is there a downside to the extra 100 + fps?

How fast are YOUR 69 grain loads?

    Thank you.

  3. OK, I am far from an expert here, but I have a question. Even if it is not a squib and does go down range isn't there an issue because you know "know" that the round did not meet minimum power factor?

Unless you have a chrono set up to test ammo, you don't "know" anything except the shooter's stated power factor (major/minor). You can certainly test the ammo if you have an official chrono. 5.6.1, appendix C2

  4. Looks like from this year 10.6430 is the HHF on it from Limited Nationals.

    So that's info for limited.

L10 is (again from nats) 10.1053

May not be current but it's a place to start

  5. What I wonder is about the dilution factor.

I'm assuming that their tasters (at a minimum) have not been able to distinguish between 84 and 90 proof samples. I would also hope that they've done enough field research with regular Makers' consumer to validate the claim.

    Bourbon Review says it's good.

Though diluting bourbon sounds like alcohol abuse, I'm sure they planned on some uproar until people taste it.

  6. When I was new to the sport I dreaded/disliked the BIG shotgun stage that required 35+ rounds.

Honestly I now look forward to them and they are probably one of my favorite type of stages to shoot.

I would agree. Not having at least one 35+ round shotgun stage sucks the fun outta the match.

I agree so much that I routinely shoot 35+ shotgun rounds regardless of the stage round count! :)
