  1. I am loading a valient 180gr lrnfp bullet at 1.131 oal length and the finished rounds wont drop in and out of the chamber of my kkm glock barrel, it acts like it is getting stuck in the rifling. My crimp is good which leads me to my question, what could be causeing this? Do i need to throte my barrel for the larger lead bullet diameter?

    Thanks

    Sorry, meant 1.131 oal

    Probably

Many of the aftermarket, replacement barrels come with very short chambers. I just put a Kart barrel (9mm) in and it had no "throat", just a square joint where the chamber ended and the rifling started. Sent a dummy round and the barrel to a gunsmith I know and had the barrel throated.

One way to do it is to load a dummy round so it fits in the magazines with a reasonable amount of clearance and throat the barrel to match the dummy round. Then you can probably load most bullet shapes that you may want to use.

This would be your answer right here.

  2. Went and shot my first match in over a year and a half. My job and traveling for it have kept me out of the dryfire dojo or the range for nearly that long. Just getting back. Everything felt awkward. Gun felt foreign to me. Just a real wake up call to what I have to do to get back in the game this year. Not to mention it was an all-classifier match to boot. My draw, reloads, accuracy, everything was in the toilet compared to the past.

It was awesome! Even though the pistol and the action felt foreign, deep down I felt in me heart that I was home shooting with my best of friends, making plans to shoot more matches, making deals on components, and practice sessions for an upcoming match.

Just Amazing. I love this sport!

  3. The point I tried to make in the beginning is, if you go 40 you can use the same gun and mags for either major or minor- it just depends on your load. You could try both quite easily.

that's a valid point, but imho its a good reason to go 45.... so you "have to buy a 9mm too to compete in minor, honey".

I thought the whole point was to buy more guns. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong...

:roflol: Seems logical to me

  4. Smitty79, Thank You for that information/link. I stopped shooting not long before that thread/discussion/ruling took place. It made for very interesting reading, all ten pages, but I am headed to the safe to pull that dot of tape off!

Thanks again for keeping me straight!

I used the dot method when I was getting my reloads dialed in a few years back and eventually rubbed the dot off. Good thing I haven't re applied it! Glad I read this!

  5. Used to do high-end interior fabrication. Think anything from wood, clay, metal, stone in homes of people like Bill and Melinda. I was constantly blown away by the costs of materials, namely wood and fabrics/leathers. I have a sapele entertainment center, and the small ebony accents costs almost as much as the rest of the hardstock sapele. Yeah, and the stuff grows on trees too lol!

  6. Good luck up there Youngeyes. Even as they complain around here about the "cold", I remind them of those of you who live in the north/east/northwet/Dakotas/central plain states or the mountain states who know what that word really means. Alaska? Well they are waaaay up there where you can expect this kind of weather annually.

  7. Was under the impression I was out of brass, 9mm anyway. Called up a buddy and he brought me over about 1100 in a big baggie. Went out to the garage to tumble them tonight, and the tumbler was full of tumbled 9mm brass already run through the u die. Hmm, well I guess I'll have to separate that I thought and went to run them through the sieve and into my one of two catch 5gal buckets.... It's full of media (1/2 full) that is full of more 9mm brass run through the tumbler and the u die. Looks like I have about 5k and only have to de-prime/resize about 1100 that I tumbled today.

Went and discovered I have more than enough powder, and primers to cover that, and need only get another 3.5k projectiles for that. Just awesome!!!

Less mental stress looking at the upcoming year.

  8. Auto-loading pistol rounds?

First find the OAL for the given projectile that allows it to feed and chamber well in your pistol. There may be a max and min, that's good to know. Then see what it takes to get that thing up to your PF with your powder. After that, you can see if adding powder is beneficial to your accuracy, or if adjusting your OAL without causing feeding issues makes an improvement. You will find that the best possible combo for each projectile and powder, and that is pretty much optimal. Best feeding, best accuracy for the given components and given firearm.

Have fun! I love reloading to this day.

  9. Wow, just took the dogs out, and 32F! That is cold for Bermuda Dunes CA. Took the dogs out to the snow last night about this time early AM. The chain station was unoccupied or staffed so I took the Subaru on up to Pinyon. 25mph behind the plow from Vista Point to the village. The dogs live in CA still and were running around like kids in the snow. Never had dogs so happy to see snow. Thought I wold get a break from the cold in NM. I guess not for a while. Taking the kids sledding tomorrow though so that's a plus!

  10. If your running in tac irons a quality red dot is quicker for most people than actual iron sights. If your running a scope it's just to play in tac optics, which always has the largest competitor field, not because you really need one at those ranges.

    Thanks!
