  1. My uncle made a socket starter that fit his lawnmower. All he did was remove the the pull cord parts and a nut was right there to place a socket on. He welded a big hex key on the socket. Just chuck up the "bit", jam it on the nut, fire up the drill. Worked like a charm.

  2. Todays picture was taken from Kitt Peak. If you ever get down to Tucson you can take the nighttime tour of Kitt Peak.. I have done this a few times. If you do go make sure you take a warm coat. The last time I went the temp in Tucson was 105, later that night on the mountain top it was about 40 with a "light" 20 mph breeze.

  3. Trapr:

Chrome moly barrel, not chrome lined. I am not sure if he has the gauges, but GG&G should be able to check it out.

    Tim:

He has had it for about 3 months, could be old stock from the dealer. I have not watched the ejection myself, I will ask.

    Jim:

Yes, 16 inch. It Could be high pressure at unlock time but I am in the "rough chamber or incorrect chamber" camp. High pressure/early unlock and chamber problems at the same time would make this problem even worse.

The owner is an experienced long time shooter that is perplexed by this problem. He had a LR-308B that worked great with everything stuffed in the mag, he should have kept that one.

  4. I friend of mine has a DPMS LR-308AP4 that fails to extract lots/most of the time. He has used LC, Australian, SA, Portuguese surplus and others that I forget now. The fired case sticks in the chamber. Sometimes a piece of the case head is ripped off (SA), sometimes the extractor slips off the case. Sometimes he can close the bolt on the spent case and manually eject the case, sometimes he needs to use a rod to tap the case out of the chamber.

DPMS says to use good ammo. He has had the same problem with Winchester white box, just less often.

It seems to me like a chamber problem to me, but what do I know. Anyone else have/had this problem and found fix?

  5. For me, with iron sights 75% of the flashers were guess where it is shots, and my eyesight is not bad.

I talked with Mike Gibson about the target visibility problem. Mike said that he uses some of that "plastic cardboard" stuff about two feet behind the target. He say's that holds up fine for at least a day of shooting with no need to reset/paint. The target backer only needs to be about two feet by two feet to get the job done, thus not blocking the dust puffs for those who need it to walk the round in (not that there was any dust behind the flashers on stages 5 and 7 anyway). I could see the LaRue's at 275/315 fine.

If you don't know your zero's out to 300, at the SMM3G you will wish you did.

  6. If you happen to have an old benelli M1S90 with non-adjustable stock (will not take the drop-kit), you can get the old style Black Eagle stockshere

I just put one on my old Benelli and used the C shim set. It fits perfectly and I like feel of the wood better. You can also get a Limbsaver pad that drops right on if you want.

  7. Millet: Mostly junk.

    New: Weaver 1x3.

    New/used: Leupold.

Used: A 1.24x4 Schmidt & Bender off of a BIG game rifle (if you are ok with first focal plane scopes). I got one from my favorite local dealer for $450.00. Maybe not the best (for 3gun) or frugal, but I now have the cool circle and dot logo on the turret caps. New ones take more cubic dollars than I am willing to spend.

  8. I have two just like it. Ghost loading will work without mods. 7 in the tube, 1 on the carrier, 1 in barrel for 9 total to start.

It is easier to watch someone perform the ghost load than it is to read about it and give it a try. Easy to do, not so easy to document.

    +1 on what JJ said.

  9. My one week old Xterra was shot with a pellet gun while parked at Costco. Put a nice 1/4 inch ding and popped the paint off said dent on the leading edge of the hood. What pain, it will take about $350.00 to fix it right. It seems that the phase "I hate it when that happens" is becoming more personal to me.

I hate it when that happens. :angry2:
