  1. I currently run a custom 9mm 1911 by Fusion firearms that rocks. Good mags are always the key. Used to have an STI Eagle with a bushing barrel that did have lock back problems but that was 100% due to the mags. I put extra power mag springs in and that solved the problem. Used to have a Springfield with a little trigger work but they are not always availible and seem to be hit and miss on reliable. Mine was fine but ... Have heard very good things about Trojans. If you practice your reloads, a 1911 in 9mm is, IMHO, the best gun going for ESP.

  2. Duane has a point on the 17 but until late October I will still be living in So. California and they have some BIG zombies out here (not to mention a boat load of them). Still an advocate of the RTF2 for those zombie blood soaked hands to hold onto the gun. :roflol: LOL. When I get out of Commie Zombie land, I may take up your advice on the 17.

Seriously though, I think the RTF2 frame is the best idea that Glock has had in a long time. It isn't for everyone as some have "delicate" hands but the RTF2 holds as good as my Stryder grips on my 1911s. I have shot stages in IDPA where you have had to put both hands in a sink full of water to start the stage and my Stryders are rock solid. I have not done it yet but feel secure in saying that the RTF2 would do no less.

  3. Always wanted a G22 for a "Zombie" gun. Went to the local shop and felt up the RTF. Bought it on the spot. Liked it so much that I sold my Gen 3 G34 and bought one of the G17 RTF2s the week they hit the street. I am a died in the wool 1911 snob but have carried Glocks for work for years and they are number 2 on my list of guns I own (e.g. I only own 1911s and Glocks). When they come out with a G34 in RTF, I may get one to start shooting production occasionally (if I haven't already done so with the 17). If you don't have sissy hands, the RTF is the way to go. Grip tape will come off eventually.

  4. +1 with the above. I had Bob with Fusion build me a 9mm and 40S&W single stacks that run like dreams. Am having him build me a double stack for limited at the moment. Great custom builder. Will give you exactly what you want for a better price and unlike several of the better known builders, he won't charge you for changes you want to make as long has he hasn't already started building the gun.

  5. I started off with the standard magwell which was fine but wanted something more (everyone that says the best results come from practice are correct). Started off with the Techwell but had to do some mods to the basepads. Tried one of the Dawson's ICE Single Stack magwells and ended up taking off the Techwells and ordered two more Dawson's for my two other single stacks. I love it. Can reload as fast as the limited boys can.

  6. I tried getting a response from IDPA on this quite a while back and got no reply either via email or phone calls.

I have an STI Tactical 4.15 in 9mm. Love it in non-USPSA 3 Gun matches. From the rules as I read them, it is illegal in ESP due to the "full length dust cover" but if it were the 5.0 with a bushing barrel, then it would be fine. Just not with the same frame and shorter slide. The bull barrel is OK but not the dust cover. On and on we go.

I am actually thinking about selling it and buying the 5.0 version with a bushing barrel for the 3 Gun and as a back up for my ESP gun. I will be the first one to say that there needs to be an overhaul of the rules to spell it out better but am also an advocate of makeing the rules more simple and eaiser. I understand the weight and box limits. I understand not wanting to encourage the "race gun" mentality. I agree with the trying to keep things as equal as possible idea, I just think it goes a bit too far.

  7. Hoping someone out there can help with this. I have an STI 4.15 Tactical as a backup Limitied Gun and a Three Gun pistol (non-USPSA matches) but I want to add the most capacity I can within USPSA rules. Tried some Arredondo insterts on a DP SNL basepad but the spacer slides down the mag. This generally doesn't cause problems but has on rare occasions. Can anyone give me suggestions follower, spacer, basepad suggestions to max out capacity and function while staying within USPSA size rules? Much appreciated in advance for the help.

  8. Had Bob Serva at Fusion build these up for me. Don't even have them in hand yet but thought I would add them to the list here. One is in 9mm for IDPA ESP and the other is .40S&W for USPSA SS. Always wanted to have a pistol build up just like I wanted but could never really afford to do so until now. Checkering, ambi safety, bomar sights but more of a combat style, rails for those few night matches that come along, stainless steel, durable Ion-Bond on the slide, etc., etc..

Will post a range report when I finally get them in hand but by the looks and all I have read, Bob and Dale do excellent work.

  9. I have got to stop posting when I am doped up on Cold/Cough medicine. Was originally using a 40S&W extractor with the 9mm conversion barell. Switched it to a 9mm extractor and seems to work fine. Have a 40S&W ejector in there and the barell seems to work just like Lone Wolf claims in that regard.

  10. Finally got around to getting back to this little experiment. Have only put about 100 or so various rounds through it after I replaced the 9mm extractor with a 40S&W one but seems to run fine now. No FTE's at all. Easiest fix to a problem that drove me nuts.

  11. Overall, not bad at all. There was some grumbling; some valid some not. My two cents, the judging was overall very good. I only found one SO to have a bit of a personality glitch and it wasn't the lady that most seem to have had problems with; she did a good job while I was there. Like I said, the SO's did a fine job from what I saw.

The stages were well planned, though stage 12 had to be dropped due to error. Stuff happens and that is the way it is. Most of the problems that did occur, IMHO would not have changed the outcome in most divisions though some may disagree. They tried to do everything as fairly as possible. Trying to keep things moving, e.g. bumping squads ahead of the rotation around larger/slower squads may or may not have helped, but hey, they were trying and doing thier best. My only gripe is the fact that the crono was never used.

  12. I see everyone is of the same frame of mind as me. I already have a 5.0 Tactical in 40S&W as my "zombie" gun but was looking for a multi purpose backup gun (i.e. the 4.15 in 45ACP could function as a back up CDP and Limited as well as a back up zombie). I have an email in to HQ but don't ever put much faith in that. I have only recieved one reply to the 4 or 5 emails I have sent them over the last two years. Am thinking to get it and put a 5" slide on it but that is a bit more than I want to put into it.

If any regional guys are around, do me a favor and take a poll.

    Thanks guys.

  13. Read that one as well but don't really think it spoke to the specific question. One person did mention that if it fit in the box it was good and the dustcover issue was mute but I was looking more for the discussion to focus around the Commander length side and the dustcover issue. I was hoping to keep the discussion narrowed to that alone. I have even noticed that Kimber has come out with a new commander length model with a rail.

Anyone want to put there two bits worth in? I am really looking for a concrete probing of the rules, if that is possible.

    Thanks.

  14. Have been thinking of picking up one of these after a review I read but here is my quandry up for discussion: If you removed the magwell, why wouldn't an STI 4.15 in 45ACP be CDP legal? The bull barrel is legal as it is under 4.2 inches long and if you put a 5" slide on it, it would not have a full length dust cover. I am assuming the full length was meant to apply to STI Edge type guns but there is no real clear explanation for commander length guns.

I am not trying to open a can of worms with this but it has been bugging me. I have an Eagle in 9mm for ESP and an Edge for IPSC Limited but would like to get a gun that I can use as a back up for my Sentinel in CDP and also as a backup for Limited. God help me with the mags though.

Let me know your ideas on the question. I put more weight with IDPA shooters than HQ anyway.

  15. Just sent off an email to IDPA HQ about the STI Tactical 4.15 in CDP. Will let everyone know if I get a response. From what I am reading, the bull barrel is allowed as the gun is under 5". The rules, if I remember right, do mention no full length dust covers but my question was does that apply to Commander length guns? Idea being, if you slapped a 5" top end on the Tactical frame, it's not full length.

Asked a similar question months ago to HQ about a 5" Tactical with a bushing barrel and the response was it would be legal (sans the magwell or putting a legal sized one on).

    We'll see.

  16. Thanks guys.

My boss actually ordered a CCF as well but just put his Glock 34 top end on it and everything runs fine. I will try switching out the extractor. That seems to be the most likely source of the problem. That is what my boss and I were thinking as the marks on the cases seem to show that the extractor is hitting high on the case to start and pulling down past the rim. We may have to play with it to get it to like up right with the 9mm extractor. Really makes me wonder about Caspian though especially after sending it back to them to fix the barell channel problem. Thought they were better than this. I did play with it a little last night and the channel cut for the extractor does seem to be fine. At least the extractor moves under finger pressure.

If anyone knows where to find an old style extractor please let me know. I get almost all of my parts from Brownells.

Will post an update as soon as I get a chance to try the fix. Will be out on the range next week.

  17. Lawman,

Was your Caspian milled real tight? When I originally go the slide the barrel channel was so tight I could not even get the barell into it. Had to send back to Caspian and wait about a month and an half. Did not think it could be the extractor cut.

What did you do to correct the problem? Polish or dremmel? Thanks.

  18. Jimmy,

The gun is a build that was assembled with the parts listed. Theory being, practice with 9mm, switch the barel to 40 and shoot the match. Originally had a 9mm ejector in it but there was enough of a clearance problem with the 35 slide that I went ahead and put the 40 on in. The slide seems to have full travel over the full length. The reoccuring problem is the slide just leaves the fired case it the barel. Putting the 75 or so +P seemded to extend the number of rounds (i.e. went from every 5 rounds to every 7 or 8 at times) but that is all.

LWD seemed to think that the +P would work the kinks out but I don't think it would take more than I have put through it. It has had probably 250 rounds of Speer Gold Dot 124gr through it as well. A friend said his LWD regular barell had to be bored out slightly but LWD did seem to think that was a problem. The rounds will come out with a little shaking once the slide is locked back and the mag dropped but this is obviously not a way to shoot any match.

Have thought it could be the barel but am aprehensive to buy a 40 barrel if I don't know the problem I am having now. I have also heard that the conversion barrels are not 100% but not this bad.

Any more help would be appreciative guys.

  19. Here is my setup:

    CCF SS Frame

    Caspian G35 Slide

LWD M35 Converstion to 9mm barrel

Glock OEM internals (ejector, guide rod, etc.).

I am having FTE problems regardless of older or newer mags. It doesn't happen every round but about every 6th or 7th round. Doesn't really seem to matter if the gun is sqeecky clean or a little dirty.

I am planning on getting either a LWD or some other dropin 40S&W barrel to use the set up as my backup Limited gun but don't want to invest the money until I have the current problem solved.

The round will fire but the empty case is left setting in the barrel with the next round up under it unable to load. My local gunsmith, who is not a Glocksmith, says he thinks that I should use a 9mm extractor as the 40 extractor now in place seems to be marking high on the brass and either skipping over or around the case rim.

Have talked to LWD and they only said to shoot some +P through it which has not solved the problem after 75 rounds of it. My local gunsmith, who is not a Glocksmith, says he thinks that

Does anyone have any suggestions. I would greatly appreciate it.
