  1. I have 2 STI 170mm mags that will hold a reloadable 28 rounds without the Arredondo spacer. You really shouldn't need it for 28 rounds. Has the tube been tuned at all? I would be reluctant to try and hammer on it with a punch to try and extend the ribs. I thought about this once before but I think it would be difficult to make it very smooth and I wonder if the follower would still get hung up if the transition is not smooth. Also, as you're hammering, you may compress the tube if it's not supported from the inside. SVI tubes are not necessarily 'easy' either. The new style tubes are different and require some work to get them to run in an STI frame, assuming you are using an STI frame here. You can search the forum and find some information on what's required and difficult people have had with them. Not to say they can't be made to work...just require some effort.

Sorry, I don't know the history but, for the STI tube you've got, are you using Gramms spring/follower and Dawson basepad? That's the setup I have in both of mine and they hold 28 rounds.

  2. Well, I think you'll be very happy with the Katana from Akai! I just received mine and am very impressed! Build time was super fast. 10 weeks from the time I received an email from Shay that the gun was 'in process' until it arrived at my FFL. And this was including the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays! The gun shoots great! New comp is amazingly soft when using the load Shay recommends. First time I shot it was over the chronograph with his recommended load. The feeling in my hand was very soft compared to my other open guns with 169+ pf loads. I thought I had grabbed some of my minor steel loads by mistake until I saw the numbers on the chrono. It was running up around 173!!

I've only put about 3-400 rounds through the gun but am very happy with it! I'm sure you will be as well!

  3. Your load is exactly what I'm running but with a Montana Gold instead of a Zero. I've also used 10.6gr of N105 and 11.4gr of AA #7. There's alot of others that have posted data in the forum. Just try a search and you'll come up with lots! :)

  4. Sounds like a great trip! The pictures are awesome!! We all really loved Colorado when we spent a couple days there on our way to Piru! The girls didn't want to leave!!

Sorry to hear about the water pump but at least she got you home!

  5. Is it true that in addition to moving the Steel Challenge World shoot to Florida for 2012 they also moved the date from August to October? I can appreciate the better weather in Florida during the month of October, but this is going to make it hard for juniors to get to the match since October is right smack in the middle of the school year....
