For 12 gauge target loads I love Extra lite with 7/8oz and the gray clay buster wads! Red dot is good too as is clays!

Another vote for Winchester AA Super Sports for major match use. 7/8oz reloads for practice and club matches.

21 is my preferred length, but the the shortest OEM Nova barrel is 24. You can get Remington 21" VR barrels, but they can be a little pricey.
I picked up a 28 VR express barrel and had a machinist friend cut it at 21 and cut it for screw in chokes.
I prefer a shorter barrel not so much for maneuverability, but for ease in pointing and swinging from target to target. If I run a 24 inch or longer barrel the extra weight on the end makes the gun a little harder to drive from target to target. A lot of folks have no problem with a 24 or 26. Balance plays a big part in shotgunning.
For advice on Nova mods, check with Pat Kelley or Trapr Swanson (Bigbrowndog on these forums).
Thanks for the advice Kuan! If I go Nova I'll pick up the 24" and see how it handles. If it feels like too much I'll plan to have it cut down. There should be enough meat in the 24" to cut and tap for chokes, right?

Thanks for the inputs guys! I may wait for the next gun show and see if an older wingmaster can be found on the cheap. Otherwise I'll probably go with the super nova. For barrel lengths, is 26" preferred or everyone going 24"?

I'm considering picking up a Remington 870 super mag with 3.5" chamber to use in heavy metal 3 gun. Can anyone comment on pros and cons of this platform? I'm thinking 26" barrel. Would there be much benefit to the 3.5" super mag or would a 3" version be preferable? Doesn't look like the loading port on the 3.5 is much bigger but I need to look at them side by side again to confirm.
Let me know what y'all think!
Thanks!

Thanks again! This popped it right out. Just a very little bit of filing got it right out!

Thanks I'll give that a try tonight!

I noticed that the bolt catch on my JP rifle was flopping around loose at the end of the Texas 3gun Championship. Upon inspection, I found that the plunger is not putting tension on the bolt catch. An empty magazine will still push the bolt catch up to lock the bolt back, however, tilting the rifle slightly to the left and cycling the bolt will also lock it back because the bolt catch will rock enough to activate. I drove out the roll pin and sure enough, the plunger is stuck in the lower. The spring will allow it to compress slightly but it would come out far enough to contact the bolt catch and keep tension to force it to be disengaged until an empty mag follower pushes up against it.
Has anyone else encountered this and have a simple trick to resolve? I've done some searching and seen folks talking about drilling a hole in the plunger to be able to hook something in there to pull it out. I'd like to try something less dramatic first, if there's an option.
Thanks!

Just looked and both for 9mm and 38sc I've got the Lee U-die screwed in as normal, with Dillon lock ring on top of the tool head. Sure the lock ring is only grabbing a few threads on the die body but it's held in place for thousands of rounds of each. Do I have something waiting to fail in the shadows here?

With HS6 I was using about 9.6gr with a 115gr MG JHP. Start low and work up though as I was running about 172pf with that combo.

I went with JP for the mount:

I'm liking my 1.5-8 XTRII. The eye box is maybe not as good as the Vortex Razor but hasn't caused me any major issues. I've run it now in a few club matches as well as at Rocky Mountain. I think the higher range on max magnification helps me more than the 1.5x hurts me on the low end. If you shoot a lot of close range stuff though(like 75 yards or less), I can see how the 1.5x would be distracting. Like others have said, I find the turrets to be good and stiff and stay in place well. They are easy to check that the zero has not inadvertently been moved too.

I've run 9# recoil springs in mine.
Edited to add, just went back and looked at my notes. Mainspring is 15#.

Looking forward to the match Denise! Quick question, will we need slings for both rifle and shotgun or just rifle?
Thanks,
Thomas

Got all my rifle and pistol ammo loaded for RM3G next week! First time shooting this match and I while I'm still really looking forward to it, I'm a bit bummed. I tore my left calf 2 weeks ago. It's feeling much better but still tender and haven't tried to run yet. Quick movements still hurt. Physical therapy was today with a lot of good feeling stretches and exercises. Hoping to be able to move smooth and not re-injure it so I can at least finish the match...

I've run several hundred rounds of Sierra 69 Match Kings at 2.250" through my Surefire 60 with no issue. I've run many more hundred 55gr Hornady FMJ's with no issue as well. I have not tried the 100 round mag yet though.

Thanks! Got the one from 3 gun stuff on order. Looking forward to trying it out!

Does anyone know who makes a throw lever for the Burris XTRII 1.5-8x scopes?
Thanks,

Sorry but I wholeheartedly disagree .... Outer Limits is one of the most important stages in a match because it tests skills the others don't. Steel Challenge was not created as a sport just for old, crippled people who can't move. In fact it was created to enable USPSA shooters to learn how to shoot steel faster. We don't do this for USPSA stage design and we shouldn't do it for SC. At nationals this year one of my squad mates was in a wheel chair ... he shot Outer Limits just fine ....
As far as the bay req'ts I get that 35 yd targets can be a problem for a lot of clubs but that's why at a level 1 match you don't need to shoot all 8 stages. Also neither of these is used for classification purposes so you don't get penalitized there either if your club can't put up these stages. For a while we had to angle the setup of Speed Option at my club to make 35 yds until the back berm eroded enough to make it staright on.
If you want to put on Tier II or Tier II matches you need to have the requisite space, no different then if you want to setup a level II or III USPSA match but only have 5 bays ... going to be tough to do but you can still offer local level 1 matches.
The way to get more folks interetsed in SC is not to change the stages but start promoting it better and get the new classification system up and going. Setup state championship matches & sectional matches & area championships and get more shooters out to shoot ...
Agreed 100%!! There is nothing wrong with Outer Limits and nothing wrong with Steel Challenge in general....except for what USPSA has done with it...

I think you'll want to clean before sizing. I clean, lube, size/deprime, clean again to get lube out of the necks especially so powder doesn't bridge, then trim and swage primer pockets if necessary, then load.
