I have the 1911 conversion kit and it will not fit my STI Eagle. It has fit every 1911 I have tried it on.

Welcome. Shooting is a lot more fun than watching and the folks at Cross Timbers have a great program for new shooters, so jump in and enjoy.

I am certainly not an expert in anything, but I would suggest a Glock 19. You can shoot USPSA, IDPA, and purchase an airsoft that is very, very close to the real thing. But again, if you have not already done so, go to some matches and observe and ask questions. This is the greatest group of people you will ever meet that will be very willing to assist. The next thing is use the "search" function and read, read, and learn. You are not the first one to ask this question.

My next door neighbor has one of these he uses to haul tackle box, etc when he fishes the Piers. I looked closely at it but it is too small for what I like to carry. A range bag alone would fit in his and thats about it. I picked up an old wagon at a flea market that works better for me.

Congratulations Allen. The first match is the hardest one and you made it through just fine. It was not that long ago I shot my first match and I remember the " information overflow " that followed.

I am on the 15 minute drill and it is great. Brought my shooting box into the house and ready to go to the next step. Besides the basic drills, which are good because 5 reps and move on, trying to get to the par times is enough to keep me going for quite some time. It is amazing how good I feel to hit the par time on a shooting drill !

Well, I ran out of excuses and started the 15 Minute Dry Fire Program this morning. WOW - the program looked great to start with, but it is even better actually going thru it. I sure did not get bored and I can see how every part is going to help me.
5 reps and change what you are doing keeps it moving and I now have a goal of getting up to novice on those par times.

Steel targets hate me. Thats all there is to it. I ended up buying an 8" round steel on a tripod kinda mount for about $100 plus shipping. I don't have to set it back up and it is great for draw and fire. I need to take it to matches with me because it has not told the other steel targets how good I am. ????

I have the same problem, can't do anything from a benchrest. When testing reloads or adjusting sights I have to do it freestyle. I hope someone can come up with some suggestions that will help.

I purchased my first Open gun, a .38 Super and started loading small rifle primers. I started with a few CCI small rifle primers I had for loading .223 and had no problems at all. I bought some Wolf small rifle primers because I could get them and started having failure to fire problems. I blamed it on high primers as they seem to me to seat harder than the CCIs did. I started being very careful sorting out anything that looked like it might be even a little high and putting those in the practice jar. No problems since I started being extra careful in sorting and the ones regulated to the practice jar give me about 30% or more fails to fire. I plan on going back to CCI or Winchester primers if I can get some.

I just did the same thing, bought my first Open gun with the Swenson thumb safety and it really bothers me also. I engaged the safety 3 - 4 times with my right index finger while shooting a stage. I took a Dremel tool and tapered it down and then used some 600 grit emory paper followed by a light polishing compound. It looks good and is better than it was, but I am still not sure about keeping it. I have used the ambi thumb safeties for years without a problem but this one is different.

I just started loading .38 Super major for Open. So far I know one thing. Brass makes all the difference. Get good brass and no problems that I have found. Range pickup and " fired once or twice" brass might be a problem when reloading.

That is tough. I just got my first Open gun and a used Ghost holster and I worry about dropping it all the time. Thanks for sharing.
