  1. I shoot both Springfields and STIs. I would suggest the Springfield TRP or Trophy Match. Invest the rest of the money on ammo and enjoy getting to know your new 1911!
  2. Thanks for all the comments guys. This is what I needed to hear.
  3. Hi all. For years I have used Clays with 230 grain bullets. However, I have the ability to get a bunch of solo 1000. I have read posts about people that have used this combination. My question is: Can anyone tell me how Solo 1000 burns in comparison to Clays? Felt recoil the same? Clean? Ability to make major? Overall thoughts, etc. I appreciate any and all info!
  4. I'll be watching this post. I have the same problem with 45 but 40 and 9mm no issues at all.
  5. I am seeing dates in August and October for the world shoot. Anyone know which is correct? -Chris
  6. I know one guy with a top ten dark house stage that just let the light dangle from the lanyard, while he shot with his normal grip. That's all well an good and within the rules in that venue, but this thread, I believe, is discussing night matches where using a tactical white light correctly (e.g. illuminating the target in order to identify it as a threat and only while engaging it) is part of the game, and not doing so will earn you a procedural penaly. If that's not the type of match Full Size was asking about, then my apologies for the assumption. You got it right Steve! Thanks to eveyone for the great replies. Through hours of dry practice, numerous flashlights, and sore fingers I have decided to stick with the Surefire technique and keeping the light in hand during the reload. My draw time is about the same now with a FL. Re-loads are a tad slower but workable. Thanks again for all the info -Full Size
  7. Ok, this weekend Our local match will be shot in low light conditions. While this is new to me and I have been practicing a lot I am curious how you would reload while holding a light in yor weak hand. My technique (shooting a Springfield TRP operator) will be holding my Surefire light in my weak hand (left hand) between index and middle finger with base of light pressed against palm to activate. I have been trying to reload while keeping the light in my hand and have also held the light in my mouth during reload. How do you reload under these conditions? Pros and cons of either way I mentioned? I'm anxious for your answers! -Chris
  8. I am shooting a Springfield TRP Operator (Semi-auto). Brass is always cleaned and tumbled before loading. Fingers are never black after handling brass - only after shooting.
  9. Ok, I admit....a weird title but here it is..... After every shooting session my fingers (both hands) are black with a suit/carbon looking gunk. I assume it is caused from my reloads. I load .45acp, 230gr bullets (precission and Zero FMJ), Clays 3.9gr, CCI primers with mixed head stamps. Also, the COL length is 1.250. Lastly, My brass is tumbled and washed everytime I load it. I always heard Clays shoots clean. What could I be doing wrong or what may be causing this?
  10. I called Marvel and they are very cooperative with their info. After explaining the type of shooting (IPSC) I do and why I wanted a conversion she told me which product would be best for me (Unit #1 practical model). Since I shoot a Springfield TRP Operator and their manual says not to use conversions I emailed them as well to ask why. Their entire response was: "It is a liability issue, when the hammer is in the half cock position with the .22 conversion kit on it, it would allow the gun to fire. In the case of the .45, it would not fire as it would not have enough enertia." I am researching the Tac Sol unit also but if anyone has anything to add I would appreciate it. -Chris
  11. I was considering the "unit 2" commander version. I am going to call the company today and ask what my options are. If anyone is interested I can post the info I get. -Chris
  12. Hello all. I currently shoot a Springfieled Armory 1911 .45acp TRP Operator for our local USPSA matches. I am considering purchasing a conversion kit from Marvel to help keep ammo cost down. This will allow me to do the same training, presentation, target acquisition, etc but shoot .22 ammo. I was wondering if any of you have any experience with these. Good or bad. If you are not familiar with them here is the link http://www.marvelprecision.com I look forward to everyones insight! Thank you -Chris
  13. I went back to the shop I purchased the pistol and that is exactly what he did. It worked perfect. Thanks for the info!
  14. Thanks for the replies. I purchased the gun 3 days ago. I'll go back to the dealer and work it out. Thanks again Chris
  15. Last night while firing my new SA Operator the front pin in the rear sight almost fell out after 100 rounds. Holding the pistol in hand, pointed away from me looking down at top of gun there is a pin (mounting pin?) inserted horizontally through the front end of the rear sight. I hope this makes sense as you read it.....it was easy enough to push the pin back in but anyone have ideas on how to secure this pin? I appreciate any help! -Chris
  16. I shoot IMR 700x 3.2 grains under Precision 147. OAL is 1.105 - 1.110 I shoot this load through my Glcok 19 and XD 9mm (4in barrel). Clean, soft and accurate load for me. -Chris
  17. Filing the decapping pin worked like a charm. Thanks again! -Chris
  18. FWIW, I have found that Titegroup 4.1 for 115 FMJ and IMR 700x 3.2 for 147 FMJ work best for my 9mm. I shoot a G19, Springfield XD 9, and Tz75 9mm. My USP .45 fullsize loves Clays 3.8 and 230gr bullets. All soft loads, clean and never have problems cycling them through any of my pistols. I shoot 1100-1200 rounds a week. -Chris
  19. Thanks again for the replies. I did a search for the topic and came up with nothing relating. It must be my search skills I will try to stone a slight point. Good idea. -Chris
  20. Thank you for the fast reply. I should have mentioned this. Last night I pulled the die apart. The pin is the same size as the new one I compared it to and did not notice any burs. I will check again though. -Chris
  21. Hello all. While reloading 9mm using my Dillon 650, Dillon dies, and clean (tumbled) brass I am getting about 1 in 5 pieces of brass that are not being deprimed. The handle is being actuated fully to both extents. The die touches the shell plate when the handle is pressed down. I do use mixed headstamp brass. However, it seems to happen to any brand. Anyone have any ideas? While loading .45 everything operates flawless. I appreciate any and all help. -Chris
  22. Thanks for the replies everyone. It gives me a lot to think about. I noticed keyholing but when I went to a different load it stopped. I lightened the crimp as well. Again, thanks for the replies. -Chris
  23. Seems like a silly question to some but I would like to know what "keyhole" is and what causes it? I'm assuming it has something to do with load charge or COL. Of course, I could be wrong. Thanks for the help. -Chris
  24. Sorry if this is redundant. I could not find HK specific info here. Anyway....... I recently began shooting 230gr Precision Bullets in my USP .45 www.precisionbullets.com say these coated bullets are safe, cause no fouling or leading. Knowing that lead bullets should not be shot through HK's I was told last night by numerous people at the range that Precision Bullets are bad for HK's. Anyone have experience with these bullets or suggestions about using them with HK pistols? I am currently shooting these with 3.8 grains Clays, 1.200 OAL. Anything longer than that would not seat in my pistol. They shoot great. Very accurate but I don't want to destroy my barrel. Any help is appreciated. -Chris
  25. Hello all. I am currently shooting a new HK USP 45 and Springfield XD9. Although these handguns are new to me I am not new to shooting. However, my loading experience is only about 6 months old. On to the problem....... .45 load data = 230gr RN, CCI primer, mixed brass, 3.8gr Clays, 1.210 OAL 9mm load data = 115gr FMJ, CCI primer, mixed brass, 3.3gr Clays, 1.100 OAL Both loads shot great yesterday. However, tonight both guns had brass get stuck in the chamber after the round left the tube. I had a heck of a time getting the slide back. I was told be a trusted source at the range that my loads were too light and causing blowback of debris into the chamber. This causes the problem. Both guns were cleaned before firing today. According to the load data I got here http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp my loads are not really light. Any help would be great appreciated. -Chris
