  1. Ric took that, added his energy, great props, let people get out of the box, and I am telling you, it's contender for best local match I've ever seen.

Glad to hear this.... maybe i will start making the drive again.... Good to see you back in the saddle!!!!!

  2. Thank you gentlemen for your help and opinions. I am leaning Glock for the obvious reasons of reliability and parts. I think with practice a Glock will be as shootable a platform for me as it is for so many others. Another good reason is I can get one at a good price due to Glock's military discount program.

Is there a big difference between the shooting characteristics of the G34 and G17?

The 34 will give you better results on longer standards type shots than the 17 due to the sight radius and barrel length. The 17 will give you slightly smaller splits on the up close and personal shots when you are at warp 7 or higher for exactly the same reason.... the difference between the 2 is very little IMO and you most likely will not notice a big difference either way.

  3. If you are looking for dependability without hassle.... Glock is the way to go... its going to go bang every time you pull the trigger. 99.9999 % of the time if you find someone that has had problem with one its because they changed something, ie barrel, striker/spring etc.... as long as you dont go screwing with it.... it will run!!!

  4. This is easy.... Most any local match you can go to, there will be folks there that will let you borrow some production gear.... Shoot each one and stick with wich ever you enjoy the most... notice i did not say "which one you do best" I dont shoot production because im better at it.. i shoot it because its a pile of fun, and you really have to use that bump 3 feet above your butt.... I shoot it because I ENJOY it. You gotta go with what you love!!!!

  5. Howdy all

a couple of questions about Open and concealed carry in Florida.

First off open carry. in other states that i have been that have open carry (remember i am a Canadian) which have been Arizona and Texas, i see lots of people with open carry. however in Florida i saw no one with open carry for the two weeks that i was there. how come?

second question. while at the open, one of the RO's (i believe on stage 4) told me that a CCW permit for Florida was easy to get for a Canadian. however when reading the rules is see a residence requirement. is there away around this? if someone can help me get my CCW for Florida i would appreciate the help.

IN order for a non US Citizen to meet the requirements for a concealed permit in the state of Florida you have to be "deemed a lawful premanent resident alien by the Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Imigration service" That quote comes directly from the application which is question 5 (d) it also states... "if you do not possess permanent resident alien status, you are not eligible for licensure and your application will be denied".

If you are a resident alien simply fill out the application, supply your photo, fingerprints and qualifying certificate of competency, proof of resident alien status, the fee and you should be good to go...

To my knowledge, there are no provisions i the state statutes for "open Carry" for firearms in the state of florida. With that being said, walking down the local isle at walmart with a glock on your hip will get you a ride to the local county jail VIA the ever so broad "Breach of Peace Statute".

    Hope this helps.

  6. I can only speak for myself but the stages were very good. I walked out at 1830hrs with 5 stages left and a 2.5hr ride ahead of me. I ride alone and I had been up since 4AM. Started 90 minutes late and the way the match was run caused delays like I have never seen before. I have only missed 2 of these matches since 1999 and will not go back.

My 4" 625 will have a 5" barrel in 2 weeks. Anybody want to buy night sights, pm me

Please let the MD know your concerns about the match, it can only make it better next year. It doesn't do anybody any good to bitch about what you didn't like on here. Craig is a member on here but this isn't the place to do it.

I shot on the Friday PM squad. Were there delays....Yes, no more than any other match I have attended. I have never organized a match of this size, but I am sure it is much more difficult that most of can imagine. I applaud the crew for a job well done.

If people followed the rules in the rule book and S&W's range rules, I would suspect a vast majority of theses DQ would not have happened

I experienced nothing at this match that would prevent me from attending again.

I do not agree that " It doesn't do anybody any good to bitch about what you didn't like on here" In fact it does me plenty of good. I was planning on attending this match but opted out for the Florida Open instead. Sounds like i made a good decision and i will definitely remember this post when deciding which matches to attend next year. My personal opinion is that this is EXACTLY the place to air the laundry. You are not going to read about match problems in the magazines or on the limited "Outdoor channel" coverage....... Like i said its my personal opinion.. i definitely could be wrong... i have been plenty in the past!!!

  7. This was one of the best produced matches i have ever had the pleasure of attending and shooting in!!! The stages were all balanced and were not all "open division" or go home type stages. Shooting in production was a BLAST!!! Its been a long time since i have enjoyed a match this much. As all that shot the match can attest.... stage #2 was UNBELIEVABLE!!! Bob is a madman for even thinking that thing up!! As long as you had a plan...you could do it. #2 was definitely NOT a stage that you could just show up and shoot with just a walkthrough and your normal 5 minutes to review. I spent the better part of 3 days constantly going back whenever it was empty and going through it... On top of having a blast i shot the best total match i have ever shot in my life..... I had a total brain fart on "going green" leaving a target around a corner thus getting a FTE and 2 mikes... can u say OUCH... yep that hurt. I dropped a mike on #4 first thing Saturday morning before my fingers thawed out and threw a mike on a swinger on #8. All that was saturday. My sunday stages were pretty much personally flawless... i actually shot every stage the best i possibly could at this stage in my life.... for me... thats flawless....

Kudos to Frank, Wadette, Bob, Duane, Bronson and all the others that helped put this thing together... as the Govenator would say... " I'LL BE BACK"

Here are the only 2 videos i have from the match... If you have a high speed connection you can watch them in HD if you click on the bottom right corner of the video... much better quality

  8. I was on Ben's squad and I would like to point out that I have been to locations on this planet that have a lot more sand and a lot more heat and humidity.

Ben did not get special treatment. He got medical treatment. I was the one putting him into the AC room.

You can see his shooting go kind of downhill at stage 4 on his video montage on his website(I shot the video).

Ben was literally "drunk" from the heat. It was clear heat stroke and he needed the treatment he got. He is a trooper and was really putting forth a lot of effort with helping set steel and paste targets before he got sent to the AC room.

I think Ben needs to hit the gym like Jake says and I really think the sauna or steam room at the local gym would be a good idea to get used to the kind of heat and humidity you may deal with in future matches!

IMO If Ben was "Literally Drunk" from the heat, it seems to me he should have been retired until he recovered. If he was so bad that he had to be ferryied to and from the firing line, then he had no business on the firing line.IMO that is

  9. I have used Tru Blue ever since i went to 9mm Maj for open. I have never heard of a spiking problem and all my chrony shots have been around a SD of 5 up to a maximum of around 12. I never got that low af SD with VV N350 and i was barely getting it in the case. Here are the loads that i run just for info

    124 Montana Gold TMJ

Federal small Pistol primers i use 8.2 gr PF of 167

WInchester small Riffle primers i use 7.9 PF 167

all in Speer once fired nicke plated brass

With the Federal Small pistol primers i do get some pressure signs with flattening of the primer. I dont have that problem with the Winchester small riffle primers.

  10. Ok i have a question.... it may be a little off topic but since we are talking about writers and magazines here is where i will ask. In 99 when i left for Bosnia there was a magazine called "Gun Games". Anybody know what happened to it? When i got back home eventually in 05 no one knew what the hell i was talking about at the mag rack at Barnes and Noble.

  11. DP:

Reading that post just made me think of some of the Tripple Canopy and Blackwater guys i ran across while in the "Sand Box". As i was reading it i could se them in my memory and was lMAO!!!! Plese dont think that i am bashing them as a whole.... but some of them had me wondering!!!! Most of them are pretty squared away guys!!!!

  12. Easy Win Score is already set up for team calculation. Why dont you ask Local Clubs to start offering team categorys, puch out some generic basic guidelines and see what kind of feed back you get. I know way over here at the Phoenix club we have tried a couple of matches with teams and everyone loved it. We even had a match that paid the high team cash out of the entry fees. It made a great little match. I love the team concept and you can count Me Chuck and Ed in on any match with a team competition. We will make the drive to embarass you guys.....

  13. Kudos to Ray and all the gang. I loved the match in spite of the timing issues. I must admit i was disgruntled at the time but i soon calmed down after getting something to eat! I shot an open 76% while totally Zeroing stage 7.... thats what happens when you dont check your batteries before a long match i guess. One shot and presto..... no dot.... oh well.... had a blast though.
