Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Ah yeah, that does ring a bell and suddenly I remember an older gentlemen in my hometown echoing, "... just to keep the 1911 relevant." while I was pasting targets. If the goal is to keep 1911s in the game, I wonder if the simpler idea would be to fold them into SSP, reinstalling the 10-round cap. Give ESP the 15-round cap. Then separate it into SSP-Irons, SSP-Optics, ESP-Irons, ESP-Optics. Do away with CDP, putting filtering all non-1911 .45s into the above.
  2. Does anyone foresee 15-round mag cap for CO and ESP in the future? I'm just getting back into the sport and part of what I got excited about was the SSP mag cap set at 15 now. For whatever reason, I erroneously assumed ESP/CO would allow the same cap too, with the division aimed more at modified frames and SAO guns, only one step up from SSP in format. It seems a little backward from how I've structured the divisions in my mind. In any case, I feel a little stuck between shooting SSP with ammo distribution closer to how I'd really carry, but using the SSP/Production gun that I only have for competition vs. shooting CO/ESP with the 3rd party trigger, removed finger grooves, etc. that I want on my real carry gun. Still trying to decide how to spec my pistols out, might just stick to CO builds and treat the 10-round limit like an opportunity to have more reloads.
  3. Hm, yeah, that's a tough one. I imagine we need some answers from match directors. If someone asked me for my interpretation, I imagine this rule was intended both to apply to duty holsters and to help people use the gear they have without giving them a speed advantage of starting with less retention than they "should" for IDPA purposes. Allowing Serpa with no button, but not allowing a Safariland with hood and button to be run with the hood down. If I understanding it correctly, the GX Vice's lever is more of a locking mechanism while working/walking the range, similar to Open race holsters in IPSC/USPSA. Since that mode of retention isn't meant to be deactivated as part of the draw, 8.5.1.10 shouldn't apply in my non-expert opinion, same as say, a bungee cord that keeps the pistol in a bucket holster.
  4. Are you asking because of the warning they have here? Is it possible that the creator posted that some time ago in accordance with old rules and never updated it? There used to be a rule that says: The tensioning lever that you can pull with your hand without using a screwdriver seems to violate that old rule, but I don't see that clause in the current rules.
  5. Hello, I used to be an avid participant and IDPA and USPSA on club level in 3 different states. I'd also shoot a little GSSF if it came into a town where I was working. Took some time away from the competitions to focus on grad school but am now revitalizing my interest in the sports, especially with the expansion/relaxing of regulations involving AIWB, WMLs, Optics, SSP mag capacity, and so on; there's a lot more flexibility than they're used to be. I was a exclusively a Production/SSP shooter back then, but I've been reconsidering my gear, figuring out what to sell and what to update, and prepping to go into Carry Optics in both sports for fun and practice more than for competing. I figured joining the forum and reading up on some topics would help me catch up on changes and developments. Have a good one, all.
