  1. I appreciate the info, but it seems there has been a general "lightening up" of the Prod rules. If this is the case, the actual regulations are somewhat vague. I wonder if a lot of the prior rulings are being revisited or vacated, since USPSA had a chance to note the concepts in the 2008 regs, but didn't. -MB
  2. I just got my 2008 USPSA rule book. Under allowed Productions mods (pages 74-75), it notes that one can change "minor components", such as springs, safeties, guide rods. Also: Under prohibited external modifications, the rules note that prohibited external modifications are features, such as weights or devices to control or reduce recoil..... Here's my question: It would seem that a trigger could be characterized as a minor component AND the external modification prohibitions seem aimed at recoil controlling mods, THEREFORE...could one now swap out a stock trigger (i.e. Glock) for one with a different trigger bar locale to enhance leverage and trigger pull? Is there a supporting document that gives more insights into the "legislative intent" of the rule makers? I mainly shoot Limited and L-10, but I'm mving more into Production all the time. -MB
  3. You are very kind. I think the part about forgetting is correct, but I can't recall about the rest..... -MB No (my home PM is mboyd@webformixair.com)

  5. Ron had a lot of praise for you and your work. I miss him every day. Sounds like you are still at the top of your game. I'll call in a coupld of weeks to get some new internals. -MB
  6. I inherited a G35 from a dear friend. He'd modified the trigger bar, including relocating the trigger bar higher on the trigger itself (moved the pin up), shortening the trigger return spring portion of the trigger bar (he drilled a new hole above the existing hole so that the trigger return spring rides more level, relative to the rest of the gun) and blended down the firing pin "hump" on the trigger bar to accomodate the new higher position of the trigger bar. He also modified the striker "foot" by tapering the sides so that it basically forms a "V" (to reduce drag as one pulls the trigger) Finally, he placed some epoxy in the frame to act as a trigger stop. My friend, Ron Durham, loved Glocks and made a study of all the modifications out there. The gun had a really good light crisp trigger, but was not IDPA SSP or USPSA Production legal. I recently experimented with bending the trigger return spring tab forward slightly. The gun then started firing in strings when I RELEASED the trigger (very unnerving). I bent it back, but the problem still persists. Here's my question: I've got a ton of stock trigger assemblies (also inherited from Ron). I want to know who makes the best Production/SSP legal trigger out there. Thanks -MB
  7. I'd say it's a Paul Liebenberg gun. His company is Pistol Dynamics. Most of his stuff is made in-house and very high quality -MB

    Frame Swapping

I have a G35 with an excellent trigger etc. I'm buying a like-new G34 today. I want to keep the G-34 bottom stock as a nightstand gun. Is there any issue if I occasionally swap the 9MM top onto the 40 for IDPA and or Production? Thanks -MB
  9. Quick Update: I followed the advice/tips on the Brazos site to contour the tip of my ejector. It worked perfectly. The gun ejected flawlessly!!. Thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction. -MB
  10. Guys and Gals: I have a single stack 9MM open steel gun. Alfaro built the top end a long time ago for me and it's never ejected reliably. Brass hangs up on scope mount (Weigand weaver type mount for Tasco PDP-4). I just installed an EGW extended ejector in the hopes that it would throw brass clear of the mount. No luck. I'm running a light recoil and hammer spring. The extractor is very snug as well. Here's my question: Is there an optimum angle/length/bias for the "nose" of the ejector to get brass to eject sidways. I've pretty much stuck with Limited since scopes came along, so I'm a newbite in this area. I need help and lots of it. -Boyd
  11. Can you recall what brand of night sight you had milled? I'd like to go to a .100 front night sight if possible. I have a set of Trijicons on my carry gun and boy do they feel wide, compared to my production setup. Thanks, Itchy Factory SIG, which I think are Trijicon. Bruce Gray at Grayguns did it. He also opened up the rear sight notch slightly. It's like using good IPSC sights during the day and regulat night sights at night. -MB
  12. I've had front night sights milled narrower. Generally there is plenty of metal on the sides. The last one was narrowed to about .100" the modification cost about $25.00. It makes a huge difference. -MB
  13. I think we should sight our guns for the most common target challenge that requires precision. I sight my limited guns at 15 yards with POI about 1 inch over the top of the F/S. When I've tried precise sighting in at longer distances (25 and 50 yards), the "human error" factor comes in and I'm often not sure if an errant shot is me (probably) or the gun. I find that I can be absolutely certain of the sight adjustment at 15 yards. I then use the sight setting at longer or closer shots and determine that amount of variation at the other distances. In USPSA, we see a TON of scary-hard shots at 10-15 yards and a lot more forgiving shots at 25-50 yards. Just my 2 cents...
  14. I like the 12' width because it gives less skilled shooters time to reload and it ensures that shooters can't stand in one place and shoot everything.
  15. Here is a stage for consideration. It's run smoothly at our club match -MB wall_of_speed_2.DOC

  18. Folks, I just had to post photosof my SIG P-220ST. Bruce Gray helped me make the gun a lot easier to shoot. The beavertail GS and magwell really make the gun feel like a 1911. I grip guns high and the standard 220 tears me up. It's my duty gun. -MB
