Thanks for the responses.  That is exactly the challenge, eerw.  Not a huge deal.  I did grab some Springer plates which will do but would be nice to have something a little more integrated, as the TS2 works well without the magwell.  I generally like magwells on other guns as they extend the grip, but the CZ magwells constrict the grip - not as comfortable for larger hands.  Maybe Armoury Craft will fill the niche with a limited run of plates.

Lok makes a magwell that is more streamlined and you may find less constricting.

    Not on the list:

    • Hone and polish chamber
    • Have chamber checked for proper dimensions
    • Get a new barrel

Considering OP has checked basically everything else & 50k rounds, the chamber/barrel is a reasonable next step IMHO.

A properly designed holster should not cause damage to the finish of the gun , even if you tried to draw  the gun from locked holster .

I don't think anyone said anything about damage. Using something with regularity causes wear. Pretty simple concept.

That’s what I was afraid of. Looks like it’s own proprietary adjustment/hanger. I’ll probably just have to suck it up and buy an entire new rig.

There are options for keeping the BOSS if you want, but by reading the rest of your replies, I don't think any would be what you want. Understand that the BOSS is great for what it's designed for, but it's no race holster system. Do your research and pick the race holster you think you'll like. Save the BOSS for when you shoot Production or CO.

I question the need for a racker.  Only one of my last five Open guns has one.  It is the last one I built as a backup.  I decided to try one.  IMO, it takes more effort and is slower than just grabbing the rear of the slide.  The only time it is an advantage is on a table start if you don't have a thumb rest installed.

I mean, good for you. OP didn't ask if a slide racker was needed. He asked about one that fit his gun.

Torn bicep ... Been there, done that.  Don't mess around!  Follow her doctor's advice and physical therapy.  Mine was tron half-way through.  Had I ignored medical advice and it had torn the rest of the way then repair efforts and recovery time would have grown exponentially!

How long were you off shooting? Doctors missed the tear for almost a month & she just got the MRI yesterday. Meets with the orthopedic surgeon next week.

  7. I've only been shooting USPSA since the beginning of this year & got my wife to try at a match in June. She was signed up for a couple more in July, then tore her bicep on her shooting arm on the 4th of July. She absolutely loved the one match she got to shoot & had to go back to spectating for my last match. She WASN'T happy. Now she's upset about the recovery time & that I want to continue shooting while she can't. Anyone have experience with either the torn bicep or shooting with someone who goes on the IL while they keep shooting?

  8. I just ordered a sample batch of the 205 grain Syntech "Action Pistol" .40 for testing. Any feedback on how this runs in a TSO?  Any need to swap recoil spring? Thanks

  9. Heat was the trick. Got it off. Thanks all. Follow-up question - I thought it was anodized. Apparently it's not. Is it cerakoted? Or, does anyone know a good way to strip the finish for a raw metal look to match (or will it not?) raw aluminum grips, magwell & baseplates?

  10. Good info all. I seem to remember watching a YouTube on the magwells that don't use a set screw loosening over time, but I can't find that video now. Anyone experience this?

If you're already loading 9mm, the cost for 9 Major is basically a new toolhead, powder measure, and die set. If you're running a 1050/1100/Evo/Apex, that's real money, but it's reasonably affordable on a 650/750 ($200-$250). 9 Major rounds are a little more expensive to load, but they're not exorbitant... like 10.5c per JHP, 3c per case, 8.5c per primer, and 4.5c for the powder? 26cpr. Still cheaper than new brass ammo, and not even terribly worse than regular 9mm these days.

I did some of the math when I was deciding whether I was going to explore open at all, and decided it was doable. Keep in mind the same gun can also run my regular 9mm pretty reliably, so if I'm feeling like like switching it up, it's not a big deal.

Welp, this sort of resolved itself. My father-in-law got me an early Christmas present of a CZ TSO in .40, so will be staying in Limited for a while.

Got my new-to-me TSO back in january. It has the stock magwell and is well worn in. I havent ever had a thought to change it really. Ive only used the CZC bases because those came with the gun. Seem to work fine, but I changed all mags over to grams FKCL-11 follower/spring kits after some initial feeding issues. Also changed to a new extractor spring.

I have been using scales grips, also came with the gun, but after about 4000 rounds now, Im thinking that I needed more of a palm swell to help tame recoil. My LOK palm swell bogies just arrived today as a matter of fact. And I can definitely see that a palm swell fills out my hand much better than the scales. I love how hard the scales bite into the hand, but I dont think they were wide enough.

On the topic of you looking for that "Racing green" thumb rest. That is the "type 3" thumb rest, and once upon a time you could find it on the CZ store. I checked for months, and eventually found one pop up at an IPSC store in slovenia and paid the price of the thumb rest in shipping alone.... I attached a few pics of the type 1 / type 3 thumbrest comparison.

Long story short, I stuck with the stock rest. It was making me really contort my grip and was not what I thought it would be. The other detail I really didnt think of was that my red hill tactical holster (and pretty much all others Ive seen) are ONLY compatible with the type 1 aka stock TSO thumb rest. In order to use that thumb rest, I would have had to convert over to my DAA race holster.

I do have the extended safety and think its awesome for sure. I highly recommend it, and when I buy a second TSO at some point, I will also be switching that.

Theres some pics of the gun as it sits today with the latest lok grip addition. Palm swell bogies, OD green color insert too. I like it with the orange.

Awesome info, thanks! I shot a TS2 Green at a local CZ vendor day & really liked the thumb rest. I'm not really in a hurry to make modifications, but in my research had heard there were issues with the CZUB magwell not blending to the frame as well as it should. My TSO is being shipped from a Gunbroker auction he won (he got it for only $1275), so I won't have it in hand for probably a week or so to see if that's an issue or not. I get to go to CZ Custom tomorrow (visiting the in-laws in Phoenix) and may grab the extended safety to save on shipping, then wait on magwell & mag extensions for the time being.

Edit - and I decided to switch to a race holster (Ghost Hydra), so not as worried about the thumb rest/holster situation. Was also looking at the Fire 4 Effect enhanced thumb rest.

  13. My father-in-law just purchased a used TSO in .40 off Gunbroker for me as an early Christmas present. I have a general idea of what I'd like to do to this gun long term (refinishing, etc), but looking for ideas/opinions:

    - Is CZC the go-to option for an aftermarket large magwell & extended mag baseplates?

    - thumb rest options? I like the one on the TS2 Green. Is that a direct replacement?

    - is the extra wide safety as good as the reviews on CZC?

    - Lok grips (which I love in my SP01 ACCU Shadow) or something else?
