DesertTortoise
Worked up some loads for my Tanfoglio limited 40. I wanted 170 PF for limited major and then find a minor load for 3 gun / steel challenge just by adjusting amount of powder in order to keep components and adjustments to a minimum. Couldn't find similar data with the search function, so sharing here. All shooting done at 54*F about 4 yards from the chrono. Did not test for accuracy this time out.180 grain blue bullet RNFP, Winchester small pistol primers, mixed brassCOAL 1.152book data from hodgdon gives 4.2 start / 4.7 maxCharge / avg PF/ low PF / high PF Major:4.3 / 171 / 168 / 1764.4 / 172 / 167 / 1764.5 / 174 / 170 / 1784.6 / 178 / 174 / 180Minor: 3.3 / 138 / 131/ 1423.5 / 142 / 139 / 146I plan to try 4.3 gr (171PF) for major and try testing 3.1 gr for minor. My 9mm powder measure is set for 3.1 so I'm hoping to just bolt that on the powder die and have one less thing to adjust.Next testing will check accuracy, point of aim + impact.I don't know which recoil spring is in the gun, but everything cycled and ran without issue. The minor brass ejected about 5 feet away and major about 12 feet so I might mess with springs some down the road.As always comments are appreciated and thanks for the information everyone shares here. GlockGuy1
Interesting OAL, in my 2011 I'm loading to 1.185 OAL, so it takes me about 5.1 grains of TG to get over 170 PF.
DesertTortoise
The tanfoglio was limited by magazine length to 1.17 but I loaded it shorter in case I want to shoot it these through my Glock 23. Book data for the load was @ 1.125I tested another minor load today:3.1 gr tite groupAccuracy between 130 and 170 PF was the same with no real change in point of impact that I could see for offhand at 25-30 yardsThe minor load is more forgiving of poor technique (grip, mostly) but I didn't see faster split times-- only slightly better groups with the same times. So I probably won't go to the effort of keeping both major and minor ammo on hand.
mosher
I run 4.5 titegroup at 1.18 for 170pf out of a 2011, and when I load minor I do one of two things, depending on whether or not I feel like changing my press: drop a 165gr projectile on the same setup and it lowers it down to a 145-150PF, or change the drop to 3.5gr and get 135pf with the 180gr. For steel challenge I can drop the 165gr on that 3.5gr load for 115PF, soft soft soft.
DesertTortoise
Thanks I might try a sample pack of 165s and check that out
JFoley001
Been running 4.5 gr myself at 1.180" in a 2011, cutting it back a tenth or two and observe power factor.
DesertTortoise
I checked my data for 4.3 grains again since it didn't match with the rest correct avg PF is 169180 grain blue bullet RNFP, Winchester small pistol primers, mixed brassCOAL 1.152book data from hodgdon gives 4.2 start / 4.7 maxCharge / avg PF/ low PF / high PF Major:4.3 / 169 / 166 / 1714.4 / 172 / 167 / 1764.5 / 174 / 170 / 1784.6 / 178 / 174 /
