jmallard
One of my Area II members just brought up an interesting point. There are no scores posted in the USPSA Classifier Database for the 2002 Area II Championship Match for Limited 10, Production or Revolver Shooters. There are scores posted for the Limited and Open shooters but none of the others. Anyone got an idea why the other scores would not be posted? bgary
They (USPSA) only use division scores at major matches as classifiers if there were some number of GMs in that division who shot GM-level scores. So, the Open and Limited match scores were used as a classifier because there were enough GMs at the top of the scores. The Production, Lim10 and Revolver scores were not used, presumably, either because there were not enough GMs, or because they did not shoot well enough to "set the [100%] standard" as a viable measure of skill. xcount
Grumpy comment time...... Gee, if USPSA does indeed compare Revolver Division classifier scores to Limited Division classifier scores on a 90% basis for assigning classification levels (as has been alleged)......... it will be a long freaking time before you see enough (maybe, any?) GMs at major matches to "set the standard".
jmallard
bgary, Thanks for the reply. Here is the official reply from the USPSA that my user received: Dear Chuck: The policy for entering overall results, by division, from a major match, tournament or area match for individual score, is that there have to be three or more Grand Masters in that division, and that the competitors' scores fall somewhere close to their normal level of competition. Otherwise, the scores could very well reflect an artificially high level of competition and might result in premature moveups where the shooter cannot sustain that level of competition. I hope this information is helpful. If you have other questions, please let us know. Sincerely, Valenie A.
