Time to bring this back to the top with some new information:

I just got back from a great weekend of shooting in Reno (in the snow). The Western Nevada Pistol League is putting on a 3 gun match on the 1st Saturday of every month, with their regular monthly IPSC pistol matchheld the following day. The Range is the Washoe County Shooting Facility located about 25 miles north of Reno on 445 (Pyramid Highway). Match fee is $15-20 and signups are at 9am. This is the hosting facility for the 2004 3 Gun Nationals, so this is an incredible way to get some solid 3 gun match practice in between now and then.

Normally the match is pre-set the day before and shooting gets under way pretty quick, but due to a blizzard the day before the stages weren't set up when I arrived on Saturday at 9am so we all pitched in and put Monte Leveaux's well thought out stage designs in place lickety split. We shot the match in bright sunshine at 23 degrees Fahrenheit with 4-5 inches of snow on the ground. We started shooting at 11:30 am and were still done with all six stages by 5pm. The pistol match the next day didn't get rolling until 10:30 am because it was just over 10 degrees and overcast, but we were still done by 1pm and I was able to scoot back over Donner Pass and get home just after dark.

The monthly WNPL 3 gun match will typically have six "all multi-gun" stages. The stages at the match I just shot were challenging and a total blast to shoot. Two stages used all three guns, and the rest were multi-gun. No Single Weapon Stages! Great range equipment and lotsa good props makes this a very high end club match. USPSA procedure and safety rules apply. Scoring is in an experimental state. A modified IMG format is being tested out where two hits of any denomination are always required to neutralize paper, power factor is not considered, and penalties are converted to time just like standard IMG scoring. Sensible weapon clearing standards were in practice (none of this bolt must stay locked open or you are DQ'd BS that I have seen before). No weapon retention or re-holstering is being done. Monte Leveaux is definitely forging the future of USPSA 3 gun here, and if you come out to this match you will get to be a part of it. See This Post For More Info The future of USPSA 3 gun looks to be a multi-gun one folks, WooHoo! We asked for it, we are getting it :-)

5 stars for this big little 3 gun match. The stages were about as good in design as most any championship level event I have been to and this was just a little one day club match.

I highly recommend the Nugget in Sparks for lodging. They have a courtyard facility that is a 5 level motor lodge with real close parking and luggage carts to get stuff in and out. No casino to haul gear through. Room rates are reasonable and the food there is excellent across the board and the room service is 24 hour.
