flycaster
I've used W231 behind Missouri Bullet 125gr. lead, with few issues. What are you using? Chuck

hueycrew
4.8g of W231 is pretty hot. I think that is the max for a FMJ 125g bullet. 4.4g W231 with a 124g lead is max according to Winchester. My load is 4.0g W231, Berrys 124 plated, 1.140 oal. Never chrono'ed though. I tried lead. Leading of the barrel wasn't the problem. It was just too dirty. Gum up everything. I was using quality lead bullets too. Loaded chamber indicator would get full of stuff, never move. 200 rounds of lead made cleaning a real chore. I had to switch to plated or FMJ. Problem went away. I'll use lead in my 1911s, not in my XD.
slavic09
Hi - I'm using some rather cheap ($25 / 500) lead bullets in my XD9 production pistol, which produces a decent amount of lead fouling. Someone recommended the Lewis lead out tool from Brownell's to me. I tried it, and it works pretty well, although it's still hard to get ALL the lead out. To me it's kind of like copper fouling in my ARs - I could work all afternoon to get it all out, but it'll just get fouled again. So far, I've had no problems. Part of me, though, wonders if it wouldn't be worth spending the extra few dollars to get plated bullets. Good luck.
