Front Sight Height

Recently I have been putting together an STI IPDA pistol. I'm in the process of changing the front sight. After shooting and tinkering for many years, one thinks they have a grasp of many things BUT I'm confused! For example, on a 1911 dovetail frontsite, when the height is stated at .190", is that:

a) .190" from the top of the radius (or flat if you have a flat top slide)

B) .190" from the bottom of the dovetail

c) .190" from the top of the flat on the front sight base

?????

Thanks for any help!

Roy

My experience tells me it's the height of the blade itself, not anything having to do with the sights mounting (dovetail, etc.). Were you to measure a sight that was supposed to be .190" from the base of the blade, where it intersects the dovetail of the sight to the top of the blade, you should get at or around .190" (within a couple thousandths, one would hope).

Then again, I could be wrong... it's been known to happen. Additionally, there mightn't be any industry standard.
