Ball Detent On Crane

Recommended Posts

I know this is a really basic question, and I think the ball detent on the crane is supposed to somehow enhance the function/accuracy of a revolver, but I have never heard a good explanation of why it is better to have one than not. Is it a strength/durability thing, or does it just help with maintaining repeatability of the lock-up characteristics to aid accuracy?

Well there are a few advantages with a ball detent:

1. Reduction of friction on the front of the ejector rod as the cylinder turns.

2. Ability to switch out barrels to a PPC style barrel

3. Accurate lock up this helps in tuning other areas of the gun.
