XD spring question

I need to change my recoil spring on a XD 9mm tactical..I understand that the 1911 spring is the same.

Not sure what the weight of the stock spring is anyone know? Also with a stock guide rod is it just drop in and go or is there something more to it???? Probably will go at least a few pound lighter to cycle my light reloads.

18# factory 100% reliability

16# chance of malfunction as spring wear out

Any lighter and reliability starts to drop off.

Although that wasnt my orig question...

Why would a light spring wear out with light loads any faster than a heavy spring with factory loads? Are the 1911 springs that prone to wear?

With the XD the striker spring is trying to pushing the slide out of battery, so what Rich said is correct. We have a new striker spring that works better with the 16# recoil spring.

The springs are no more or less prone to wear. Barsto, SA, and us (Springer Precision) use a guide rod with a built up guide rod head for the 1911 springs.

I like the 18# spring as the gun tracks better for me.
