mickeyjr
Hi All, Does anyone have an accurate target load for the 45acp using montana gold 230gr Jhp. I will be using W231/Hod Clays powders, mil cases, Fed 150 primers. I have checked the win load guide and it states 5.1grs. as max. How much difference in pressure is there between FMJ and JHP bullets? you can really load up fmj,but I guess because JHP's are fully closed at the base,it must raise the pressure. So the load charges are less for JHP's. Any information would be greatly appreciated, Regards, Mickeyjr.
gm iprod
I use only Domestic US made 45Brass. I have had difficulties getting accuracy (in MY gun) with Mil spec brass. Speer, Winchester, Federal and Remington seem to work best. My Para prefers Federal. I use the MG 230JHP at just under 750fps. I found 4.3grains Winchester WST or 4.4grains Hodgdon Titegroup to be best with 4.0gr Hodg Clays very close behind. For a low recoil option try the Zero or Sierra 185gr JHP. about 4.5-4.6gr Hodg Clays does the trick for me.
