Top Strap: Scope Mount Screws

I need to add the two holes in the top strap on one of my old style K-frames to mount a regular scope mount (which uses the three holes on the new model K frames).

Anybody know:

What thread and size are the holes supposed to be?

What drill size to drill the top strap before tapping?

You might want to ask in the Gunsmith section to make sure but I believe the screws are 6-48 which would take a #33 drill but I am not positive on the drill as it is not on my chart.

Brownell number 395-648-101 Says it is #31 drill size

According to my Brownells Screw Checker it is a 28 drill and a 31 tap for a 6-48. Double check it with Brownells Tech Help.
