Hodgdon Hs-7

First time poster,

Have a G27 which I am just starting to reload for.

I just got a 1 pound bottle of Hodgdon HS-7. Do any of you guys/ladys us this powder in the .40S&w??

What is a good amount to use with 165gr hmj zero bullets??

I'm Sure you will here this more times than you will like, HS-7 is discontinued. HS-7 is too slow for 40 S&W. Switch to clays or Uni clays.

Interesting, I just came from the gun show here in Knoxville TN and the stand where I bought it from said they use it all the time. I guess I got suckered into it.

I have used HS-7 for about 20 yrs. I was bummed when Chris Hodgdon told me they were discontinueing it! Trust me it does suck! Not enough demand for it. I use it in my open gun. I will switch to HS-6, When I run through the last of my HS-7.

Book I have has the following.

180 gn jacketed 7.6 to 8.3 gn for 1000 fps

200 gn jacketed 6.8 to 7.4 gn for 907 fps

Like Blackdragon said not the best choice for 40 s&w

Watch out for Clays in the 40 S&W. If you've got good loads, the rounds are great, BUT... Clays is very unforgiving for overcharges on 40 S&W.
