splashdown
I'm shooting a 180 gr Masterblasters bullet at 823 fps. How much bullet drop can I expect at 50 yds? I'm wondering because I could face this scenerio at a match and don't have any place to test it myself.

Hey Larry...thats all going to depend on what distance you're zero'ed at presently. Using a ballistic calculator for different zero distances, I've got the following: zero drop at 50 yrds 15 yrds 3.5" 20 yrds 3.25" 25 yrds 2.8" Hope that helps. gm iprod
According to the Sierra manual you should sight in as follows. 180gr JHP (conical shape) at 800 fps = 144pf Zero at 50yards. 10yards = +0.53" above Line Of Sight 20yards = +1.26" above LOS 30yards = +1.43" above LOS 40yards = +1.01" above LOS 50yards = 0 75yards = -5.20" below LOS 100yards = -14.40" below LOS So if you zero at 50yards you will only miss anything out to say 60yards by 2" or less up or down, due to the bullet path. The same bullet at Major (950fps) Zeroes at 50yards 30yards = +0.92" above LOS 75yards = -3.54" below LOS 100yards = -9.86" Real flat out to 50y!! splashdown
I'm zeroed at approx 15 yd right now. Can you help me with another load? Again zeroed at 15 yd, 115 gr 9mm at 1147 fps. This is more of a known load for me that I have shot at 50 yd. I've found a couple of ballistic calculators in the past, but they were geared toward rifles and I don't know the coefficient of my bullets. I suppose I could approximate it based on what Winchester publishes for a similar bullet profile and weight. I'm "guessing" the BC's are probably about .150...but at this range and velocity..its not going to matter too much. so for the above load, I'm getting the following: Range Velocity Impact 0 1147 -0.5 10 1122 -0.1 20 1101 0.03 30 1081 -0.13 40 1063 -0.58 50 1046 -1.
Canuck-IL
Use this site... http://www.handloads.com/calc/ Don't forget sight height above the bore and crosswinds - they default to 10mph /Bryan
splashdown
Thanks guys. I was a little worried I would get more drop at a velocity of 823 fps. Thanks for the web link Canuck-IL. See you at m'ville in 2 weeks SZ.
