hap
I've just started reloading on my new Dillon 550B in 45 Colt with the Dillon die set and I'd like to get a set up in 44-40 for CAS. Anybody reload this caliber on a 550b? I understand Dillon makes the conversion kit but not the dies- What exactly do I need to get set up? What dies do you use? gm iprod
Very simple to do. Call Dillon and get a conversion kit, toolhead, powder die and a set of Redding 44-40Dies. Also add in the Redding profile crimp die. Use the sizing die in station #1, Dillon Powder measure in stn #2, Redding Seat and crimp die in stn #3 (only utilizing the seating part of the process), then the Profile Crimp Die in stn #4. As an alternative for the toolhead and powder die, get the quick change, it comes with a toolhead stand and a powder measure, well worth it in the long run. Make sure you lube your cases well. hap
Ok- i checked out the redding dies- but I'm a bit confused about the station 2 die- do I use the Dillon powder die I already have with the 44-40 funnel? I only have 4 stations- what do i do with the neck expanding die from Redding? On the .45 Colt the setup is 1 decap resize reseat primer 2 powder and bell case mouth 3 seat bullet 4 crimp there doesn't seem to be enough stations......... thanx for the comeback
gm iprod
Set up the same as the 45Colt, using the Dillon Powder Measure and Powder Funnel (provided in conversion kit). Discard the case mouth expander from Redding (or anyone else). Sorry for delay, went fishing. Stood next to guy who caught a 19.5lb Brown Trout. Far frigging out, it is BIG. BTW I got sod all, only a 7 lb Rainbow.
