freezingduck
Living in Norway i have two Benelli Vinci shotguns. Both of them have a 26'' barrel. I would like to cut one of them to 19'' and make it into a short fun gun. I found a gunsmith that says he can cut the barrel and fit it with Briley chokes, even thou its Chrome lined as I have understood. Does anyone have any experiense cutting down a Benelli barrel that short? Does it reduce reliability? Greetings from Norway
SteveFromCleveland
should cycle fine in my opinion, just make sure he is going to use a piloted barrel crown facing tool or is good at cutting the crown on a lathe. as far as chokes go, why isnt he cutting it for the factory chokes? SteveFromCleveland
the only thing i can think of maybe malfunctioning is the inertia spring or recoil spring, which should have a oem replacement part for short barrel systems since the M4 is offered in a 14.5" variant. Although my logic could be wrong, if the venci doesnt share that parts commonality
kurtm
M4 = inertia with a gas assist. Totally different design than straight inertia guns. Can't go back with " factory" chokes, because Benelli swages the barrel out to a larger diameter and then threads for chokes. In this case you have to go with a different system!! You can easily cut it to 19" and it will still run just fine. Any good gunsmith should be able to do the work and re-choke with either regular or thin wall chokes, depending on barrel thickness after it is cut. Man you got some real internet answers here!!! freezingduck
Has anyone any experience hitting moving targets with such a short shotgun compared to a 26'' barrel?
kurtm
I've used a 21" barreled Benelli for EVERYTHING, Doves, Ducks, Pheasant, Bear, Pigs, Turkey, Ptarmagon, ........most of it moved, most of it was tasty!! You won't have a problem at all! Oh yeah Sporting Clays, Skeet, Trap, 5 stand......all worked great, just not as tasty!!
cas
Last fall I had an SBE cut to 18" and threaded for thin wall chokes. I don't have tons of rounds through it, but so far no issues. I really like it.
freezingduck
How much velocity loss do you expect from 26, 21, 18"?
