heavy buffer and spring problems

Recommended Posts

I posted a similar on ar15.com... shot a 250 round PCC match yesterday shooting 8 of the USPSA National's courses at Frostproof...I've been using a heavy 7.5oz buffer, 17oz bolt, and .308 spring.. after the match I noticed some battering of the barrel breech surface, possibly from a deep chamber allowing the bolt to travel too far forward with the added inertia of the heavy buffer and spring... I am switching to a lighter buffer and spring combination to help with this problem... when I got the barrel, I inserted a cartridge, but with no hood to judge chamber depth, did not measure with a dummy and the bolt together....just a word of caution to others trying heavy combos

Mike Foley (USPSA President) and Troy McManus (NROI) were there and took suggestions ... I suggested using the low ready start rather than  port arms ...possibly the use of a table like a pre load shotgun table to speed up un bagging and bagging if the PCC is transported in a case...they are supportive of PCC
