gzo
Daylight around the front sight seems to be a personal thing. My buddy hates any light and I am in the middle...don't like a lot but lean more toward no light. especially for speed shooting. Bullseye lots of light. photoracer
Best sight for aging eyes is a red dot. Ditto on that. I didn't even become a competition shooter till I reached 60 YO almost 8 years ago. As for iron sights I have gone to fiber optic front and rear plus I run a pair of glasses with an 18" focus dominant eye correction. 15 minutes after you put them on you can't tell they are not your regular pair. But now the front and rear sights are sharp and the regular prescription in the other eye makes the targets look sharp still. Until someone helped me discover all this I though I would be shooting nothing but open division.
