racknrider
I am confused as to the purpose of have a bull barrel and heavy profile slide then lightening the slide via cuts. Can someone please enlighten me?
Quack
To lower the reciprocating mass when the slide cycles, but to keep weight up front.
BeerBaron
Yes, adding weight to the barrel is desirable as a recoil/muzzle flip combatting device. The slide however moves forward and back. if it's heavy as it moves back and hits the rearmost part of its travel that will cause the muzzle to lift. Likewise as it comes forward and goes into battery it can cause the muzzle to dip. So with a heavy slide you end up with a longer recoil cycle and therefore longer time before you can break the second shot. Lighter slide reduces those effects and it can move faster too. hence why heavy barrel is a good thing. heavy slide not a good thing.
