can't get slide back on my STI Steelmaster

completed pinning my grip safety anf reassembled the gun without any real issue. did a function check and the trigger assembly appears to functin correctly but when i go to put the slide back on i can't push it back far enough to cock the hammer and line up the holes to insert the slide release lever. i must be missing somthing simple ... can someone enlighten me? thx

Pull out the barrel and the recoil spring assembly and see if the slide will now go back.

Is the barrel link lined up with the holes on the frame?

Try aligning the holes and put the slide stop through as far as it will go. Then see if the slide will go back.

With the slide off the gun also see if the disconnector can be pushed into the frame.
