crovello
I am just getting back into shooting so maybe I am out of touch with today's powders. I have in the past loaded my 40S&W with VV N340. I have been loading a 180gr head with 5.5gr. N340. I do not have my old chrono info any more but I think it ran just over 1000fps. giving me a 180 power factor. With this power factor, the case pressure was about 26,000 psi. Now with the lower power factors needed I was looking to change my load. Someone suggested I try Hodgden Titegroup. I bought a four pounder at the gun show this weekend and was supprised at the loading data. 180gr tc with 4.7gr titegroup gives a velocity of 978. power factor 176. Lower than my old load but case pressure of 33,300. Is this typical of new faster burning powders? Dave
Zak Smith
N340 is pretty slow compared to TG. TG is very similar to N320. My last batch of "hot" 40 was a 180gr JHP with 5.3gr TG loaded to 1.230. 1020fps from my SV. It makes 165PF closer to 4.8-4.9gr TG. -z
Flexmoney
All other things being equal, if you go from a slower powder to a faster powder...the case pressure should go up too. Gotta be careful loading 40. (Though TG has worked well for many)
