DRichardson
I have a much older ( around 1993) 38 super open gun. It has a cut down slide and a barrel length of ~4.5 inches. I think the recoil system is comander length. I tried some govt recoil springs by hand and they coil bind very early so I am assuming it is comander length. The recoil spring in it now is somewhere around 10 - 11lb and the end looks to have been cut. My gun seems to run 9 major so far and as a experiment I want to try and get it to run 9 minor loads for steel challenge ( my local steel match is a lost brass match and I don't want to leave that much super brass laying around). Problem is I can't find comander length recoil prings down to 7 lbs or so. Will a standard govt. length spring that is cut to not coil bind keep the same lb rating, or will I run into issues this way?
