Self-locking Shellplate Bolt

Hi guys,

RE: RL 550B

Recall that there's a pretty large shellplate bolt that goes through the Ninja-star looking Index Sprocket and the Shellplate?

Well, when I start loading and rotating the sprocket, somehow after every few turns, this bolt would self tighten and will lock up the entire sprocket.

I tried spraying silicone dry lube underneath the shellplate before installing the bolt and the issue still persists.

So, my current temp solution is to slightly unscrew the bolt a little after every few turns. This gets old really fast.

Any idea how to fix this issue?

I'm not sure about the 550, but on the XL650 there is a set screw in the left side of the mainshaft to prevent this from happening.

Check out page 8-9: RL 550 Manual. The picture on the bottom right of page 8 illustrates the part. The first paragraph on page 9 addresses exactly this issue.

Yup, you're right.

Totally forgotten about that little screw on the main shaft.
