Freebore and accuracy

I've recently run across a few posts about freebore and how to determine it with a given bullet and barrel. This got me to thinking - how does freebore relate to accuracy in pistols? Is more better? Less? Is there a sweet spot? And WHY? Or is there no consistent relationship and it's all just trial and error?

I realize that whatever accuracy gained by optimizing freebore is probably inconsequential for USPSA type games, so for the sake of argument let's just assume at the outset its for bullseye or some other accuracy game.
