lvipscshooter
I am developing a new load for my STI Limited gun. Running a Schuemann 5" AET barrel in it. I started with the load data found here and have the following result 180gr Berrys FP, 5.0gr of N320 with an OAL of 1.180. I am only getting 157PF. Do you all think I would be safe to bump to 5.2 gr or should I switch powders? I tried the load with Zero 180gr JHP loaded to the same length and only got 155PF. Opinions please Thanks
blaster113
wow, that barrel seems to be running real slow. 4.7 grains of N320 at 1.180 used to get me a nice comfortable 168.7 pf out of a stock 5" STI bull bbl and a 180 gr Hornady jhp. curently using 5.4 grains of N320 with a 165 jhp at 1.180 oal (6" Schuemann classic) for 172 pf so I'd imagine 5.2 grains with a 180 should be OK if there are no pressure signs. If I recall some of the local guys with AET barrels are using over 5 grains of N320 with 180's. I've been finding that the last few plated rounds I've been playing with are just as slow as jacketed. kalaur
I ran some 320 through the chrono a few weeks ago, stock STI 5" barrel, 180gr MTG JHP @ 1.200 OAL, wolf SRP, 5.1-5.2gr 320 was about 170PF. If you're only at 157PF with 5.0gr, not sure you're going to make major with that barrel/load. For me, 320 runs about 2PF per .1gr How many rounds do you have through your barrel? Have you ever slugged it to determine diameter?
lvipscshooter
Round count through the barrel is @ 500, so I am sure it is not broken in yet. I was surprised that this load didn't make major!
lvipscshooter
Upon further review, we think there was an issue with the Chrono. Another shooter tested his loads that just chrono'd major, and had the same results as me, @ 155-157pf. We tested on another Chrono today, I tried my original 5 gr loads as well as 5.2 5.2 gr N320 180gr Zero JHP 1.180 OAL 179pf (too hot!) 5.2 gr N320 180gr Berry's Plated FP 1.180 OAL 175pf (too hot) 5.0 gr gr N320 180gr Zero JHP 1.180 OAL 170 PF (YAY!) 5.0 gr gr N320 180gr Berry's Plated FP 1.180 OAL 168 PF (YAY!)
