domyalex
Hello to all. Reading around it seems a lots of people are running 9# or even 7# recoil springs on their 9mm 1911s. In my Spartan I'm using the stock 12# and it works fine with the 130pf ammo I'm using. I tried a 10# but it was sending empty brass into the next county. So, why the favor for lighter recoil springs? Recoil behavior? Lighter main springs for those 2# trigger jobs? Really curious...
calishootr
most will use a lighter recoil spring because the recoil ofthe gun is more 'linear' rather than vertical, thus faster recovery shots, less muzzle rise, buuut, you have to find a happy medium the lighter you go, the more you run the risk of feeding problems with the gun, i ran a 7 lb spring in a .45 using 180 pf ammo...felt like i had a slinky in therefor a spring....operator preference
fred5876r
I was running a 10 lb. spring in my Spartan and the first couple rounds per mag would nose-dive into the feed ramp. My gunsmith suggested a lighter spring - I changed to a 9 lb. and that cured the problem! The gun runs fabulous at around 130 PF.
