Seating die leaving marks on bullet

I have a set of RCBS carbide dies and am using hornady XTP jhp's.Is it normal for the die to leave a mark on the bullet should I be concerned about it? Second when I set the taper crimp should it be just tight enough to leave a slight impression on the bullet?

The right bullet I know was too tight the left has marks but is not indented.

both have a ring around the tip just below the cuts in the tip.

TIA

Chris

Looks like you don't have the right seating cap in the die...checking your seating die and see if you have different caps that go inside that match the profile of the bullet...

Is this the first time you have loaded with this die and this type of bullet? What others have you loaded?

You shouldn't be seeing rings. Are you 'flaring' the case mouth enough so that the bullet seats easily?

I like to seat my bullets first then follow with a Lee factory crimp die (part of a Lee deluxe pistol die set) IMO, RCBS makes good stuff, but I've had better luck using Lee for pistol dies and Redding for rifle.

It also looks like you are seating the bullets really long. What is your OAL?
