Cockle Burs

Recommended Posts

Went pheasant hunting this morning and we all had great fun until we got home. Having a long haired dog in an area where there are cockle burs can be rather painful. We spent over 20 min. carefully removing these nasty seed pods from Bailey's fur :angry2: There is no easy way, and I really don't want to shave her with the winter weather finally arriving.

Ugh...I hate those things. What a mess. Yet another case for short haired dogs...

I had to throw out a really nice ECWCS polar fleece jacket when I got caught in a mess of them while doing a survey a few years ago. It was like putting on a suit of velcro loop and then jumping into a pool of velcro hook...and trying to swim. <_<

We have a ton of them around here, yep they are a pain. I did find something worse when I lived out west.

We called them sand burrs, lot smaller and VERY sharp!

Penetrate your hide right damn now and they can really sting.

Try wiping your dogs coat with some baby oil, helps slide them out.
