Having a long haired dog in an area where there are cockle burs can be rather painful. We spent over 20 min. carefully removing these nasty seed pods from Bailey's fur There is no easy way, and I really don't want to shave her with the winter weather finally arriving. I had to throw out a really nice ECWCS polar fleece jacket when I got caught in a mess of them while doing a survey a few years ago. mildot1 Posted November 20, 2010 Share Posted November 20, 2010 We have a ton of them around here, yep they are a pain. I did find something worse when I lived out west. We called them sand burrs, lot smaller and VERY sharp! Penetrate your hide right damn now and they can really sting. Try wiping your dogs coat with some baby oil, helps slide them out.
