pmd
I have a Colt 20" preban 9mm upper that I'd like to put a comp on. I a perfect world I'd be able to use the existing threads on this preban 9mm barrel (but I could re-thread if needed). What type of comp do or would you use? Does the JP work well with 9mm? Many Thanks. PMD
Patrick Sweeney
Problems abound. First, the threads on Colt 9mm ARs are 1/2" x 36, not the .223 standard of 1/2" x 28. Second, a 9mm has so little pressure left at the 16" mark that getting any comp to work wil be a miracle. I tried many types back when I was fruitlessly trying to win the P.E.E. at Second Chance, comping 9mm Colt SMG's. You're better off exploring reloading the 9mm for the best possible accuracy. Colt barrels can be less than stellar. After all, they are "just" smg's, so who cares about accuracy, right? Or so the factory seemed to think. pmd
Patrick, As soon as I get some time I will be doing some load testing. Thanks for the info. PMD
Carlos
Agreed! I have a 16" gun & gave up on finding comp for it. Try 147 loads - you will be surprised how the sights stay on target much better w/ 147 than 115 or 124. Regards, C.
dickwholliday
i've got a Smith Enterprize comp on mine...i guess it's better than no comp at all but my 223 with a Berquist comp kicks less than the 9mm....i guess it's that big ole heavy bolt flying back and forth.....D I C K
pmd
Anyone use the EGW comp? http://www.egw-guns.com/parts/parts_fr.htm - They do make these for the 9mm AR15 and I've been told with the correct thread. PMD
