14 pounder loaded on a standard length rod may be no less compressed because it has to fit on a shorter rod. Assuming constant rate springs, what you're saying will only hold true if long rod's spring is at least half inch longer in its relaxed state than spring loaded on a standard length rod. Do you know if that is the case?

hmm good question im not sure but i feel like its likely that it is

i talked to the guy at zr tactical about the long stroke guide rod for my 5" pdp and he said the 14lb on the long stroke is a custom, extra long and wider inner diameter ismi spring

that being said, i am running an 11lb glock ismi spring on my standard length guide rod so i think youll be ok

Yes sir their will be no issues with a 14lb spring I own two full size pdp and 1 steel frame pdp. As long as you don’t go down to a 13lb you should be fine with lockup. If it does just throw a reduced striker in there . I’ve got about 50/60k rounds between the three and two have reduced strikers no issues with primers .

what reduced striker springs are you using?

I presume that if there is no lockup issues with 14 lbs spring mounted on full length rod, there should be no issues with 14 lbs spring mounted on standard length rod.

I got Rune guide rod with their spring pack for testing.

guys it's important to know that the length of the spring matters a lot. the zr long stroke uses an ismi 14 pounder but the spring is super long. the longer it is, the more compressed it is when its in the gun. more compression is more force to keep the slide closed at rest.

the weight of the spring isnt enough to determine what will work across two different guns

Here's a pic of the LOK extended button mag release that fits the Walther extended release.  With my grip, I now prefer this!!  The screw that comes with the LOK button is too big.

how does one acquire this? lol it seems to be always out of stock

Don, great hearing from you! I have not had a bit of trouble out of the polymer rivals that I shot. I believe these issues are exclusively regarding the rival–S. I would guess that I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 15,000 rounds on my polymer rival that I kept. I have had no issue with it to date.

yessir! hope you are doing good man!

appreciate it! im sticking with polymer this season so just wanted to be sure. i just bought a spare barrel so now im curious to see what the barrel lug looks like lol

i want the steel frames but they aren't super available and now i may wait until they round these issues out haha

  6. hey @ngodwetrust21, I am still running the polymer rivals that i bought back in jan 2023. had you had any of these issues on your polymer rivals (aside from the overinsertion thing)?

How many rounds do you have on your polymer rivals? I am trying to see if i need to anticipate a barrel lug breakage or not lol

wow cool..  which bullet is it..   RN or FP?  I didnt think BB called theirs RNFP..  and was it 355 or 356.   thanks for your time, sorry for old thread dredge 😛

hey sorry its the FP but the RNs are just find too.

i like the clean hole that the FPs leave in the target (for scoring reasons).

i was just ordering 355 but i bet you could get a little more out of 356 with the same powder charge

    no worries at all!

    Interesting, thanks man.

Didn't expect that to be honest, I will look into it.

try it out :) i had 2 shadow 2s and one was a little faster than the other so i made that my match gun but they both were within 2-3 PF of eachother

    Soft, yeah, probably.

But no way you are making power factor with this load.

At what length are you seating this load?

hey man! i actually think you are pretty safe with this load. last chrono was 129 (havent shot the shadows in a while).

this is a pretty common load from what ive seen.

length is 1.1 - pretty short since its a shadow 2.

  10. question for you guys on this thread....is it possible that the FS triggers remove so much pre-travel that it disables the firing pin block?

Looking at how the gun functions, the firing pin block is depressed pretty early in the stroke by the first hump in the trigger bar.

The FS triggers reduce most of the pre-travel. i think its likely that the firing pin block is depressed when the trigger is at rest because of how much of the stroke it reduces

just curious if anyone had the same thoughts or knew

for instance, on a walther, overwatch precision offers a reduced pretravel trigger. the trigger bar is clearly modified in this kit when you compare it to stock. the modification is to the first hump in the trigger bar so that it hits the firing pin block "later" in the stroke. this accounts for the reduced pre-travel, ensuring the safeties are still functional

The FS doesn't come wirh a modified bar

This is very true just switched from AA7 to 3n38. Not only is 3n38 more consistent on my 750 it is cleaner in the gun significantly.

i recently picked up some 3n38 and im having some trouble with the metering in my 750.

targetting 8.5 grns, ill get anywhere from 8.1grn to 8.8grn

im using headstamp sorted, roll sized brass

i cant seem to figure out what the issue is 😕

This this this, it has helped me out so much lately. Also found this out from a Ben Stoeger video.

    awesome!

its tedious but i read each blurb from his dryfire book now right before doing the drill to make sure im focused on the right things.

sometimes it gets to be annoying because i just want to "do the drill already" but it always pays off

Yes, Yes it was. I'll be honest other than a 1911 I got in 1999 I have had no use for Springfield, always hated the XD line, but I will say that the hell cat and the Echelon have some good stuff going for them, HS Produkt has put together a nice package. We will just have to see how it pans out.

i never shot an XD but something about them just seemed unsavory to me lol

i did buy a prodigy and have been happy with it (after upgrades)

seems like the hellcat and echelon are wins but like you im curious how they do after the new excitement wears off

Once you get a 2011 right I think they can be just as reliable as a glock in a sense. Like having one run trouble free with out breaking any parts for 50k rounds doesn't seem crazy. Especially now talking about 9mm minor guns for LO. Obviously it will need to be kept wet and cleaned more frequently. Vs a glock you could literally do nothing to it and just shoot it for 50-80k rounds. That I a 2011 can't do.

IMO the biggest leap in 2011's have been mags. You can buy mags that just work right out of the box now. The days of needing special tuned mags are pretty much gone.

    yeah good point!

i dont mind lubing and cleaning after each match. i do it on my glocks too even though i dont need to haha

im excited that i can potentially get that kind of life out of my minor pf 2011 without significant maintenance

i just got into the 2011 world this year. i am very thankful the mag situation is so good. when i got into them i was confused why everyone on forums and youtube were talking about mag tuning and mag issues lol

  15. i found that trigger control at speed (ben stoeger drill) was best for getting better at the double action pull.

set your timer beep to random. start with gun on target witha  good grip and trigger finger in the trigger housing but OFF (or forward of) the trigger shoe. at the beep pull the trigger. dont do it slow, do it as fast as you can. try to get the trigger pull done before the beep tone finishes.

your sights will go all crazy at first but keep doing it. you will start to correct the pull, your grip, etc so that the gun doesnt move.

before too long, you will develop a fast DA pull that doesnt cause a sight disturbance.

imo dont worry about all these detailed DA pull mechanics. you need to be able to keep the gun on target when slapping the s#!t out of the trigger. when you tense up in a match, you end up slapping anyway.

practice this regularly in dryfire and DA pull will not even be something you think about at a match.

its a little crazy to me to adjust a stage plan based on a trigger pull

Shouldn't the goal be for it to run like a $500 gun? I know it doesn't sound as cool, but having a 2011 that runs like a glock is way more appealing that one that runs like a custom 2011.

that's a fair and valid point! I totally agree that kind of reliability would be awesome

I have yet to put that many rounds on my prodigy to determine if it will run as reliably as my glock

I will say there is something to be said for a 2011s performance vs a $500 gun.

we all know they are not as reliable typically, but they are much easier and fun to shoot

  17. really appreciate this thread. ive struggled with the reason why i shoot......or even have hobbies in general.

it would be more useful to my family and career if i didnt as its something that divides my time to a degree. most if my friends dont shoot either.

ive felt selfish for years, working on improving and going to matches.

its not so much that other areas in my life are neglected. its more just that as an adult, you realize that you could always be more productive with your time.

its hard not to feel guilty when there is so much you could be doing with that time.

ive come to the conclusion recently that shooting (or any other hobby) is about having control of something you enjoy. there are a lot of things in life that demand your attention. a hobby is something that you can enjoy at whatever level you like. if you want to be a super competitive at matches, you can work on that. if you want to just shoot casually and get out on the range, go for it.

the point is, you make the rules and its something you choose to do for you. i think people who like hobbies (like myself) need that in their lives. it scratches some itch.

shooting for me scratches a lot of itches. i am very competitive (in a friendly way) an enjoy chasing my range buddies on match day. i like having something to work on that is fun ti do. as an engineer, i like to gumsmif and tinker with guns, parts, etc. I like the reloading process both from a tinkering perspective and a perspective of chilling and watching tv while reloading.

i can do all this and be a good husband and dad and be good at my job. its the perfect hobby.

i used to ride motocross and that was just such a time sink, i couldnt find time to practice and be present for my fam and job.
