  1. Just wondering what lasers you guys are using on you PCC, and how far is it still visible in bright daylight? Thanks in advance, Philip
  2. Thanks for all the great replies. I have one more question before I go ahead with this project. Has anyone set up a red dot by using a mount that fits into the rear sight dovetail? Are they durable? Do they hold zero? If I do this I'll be using the Galloway on a Ruger SR-9. Thanks again
  3. Thanks, Tampa, but the Holosun won't work with the Galloway plate. LuvDog, Thanks for the education. I'll be using it in the Carry Optics division in IDPA, so I guess 6MOA is the way to go.
  4. Thanks to all for your replies. I think I'm pretty much settled on the Venom. I'm new to red dots, so forgive my lack of knowledge. I know MOA is minute of angle, & 3 MOA means the dot will cover 3" at 100 yards, & 6 MOA 6". I see a number of people recommend the 6 for a handgun. Can you explain why the 3 wouldn't give a more precise aiming dot? Thanks again
  5. Thanks guys, I'll definitely take a look at the Vortex sights.
  6. I am looking to move into the carry optics division in IDPA. I will be installing a Galloway optic mount plate on my Ruger SR-9 & I'm looking for red dot suggestions. Nothing that will break the bank as I am just a casual shooter. Mainly looking for a decent sight that won't get torn apart by the shock of slide movement. Thanks in advance,
  7. I apologize if this has been discussed already, but I couldn't find it. I plan on shooting SC with a rimfire pistol & was wondering why rimfires have to start from low ready when all other pistols start holstered. I don't see how drawing a rimfire is any more dangerous than any other pistol. Am I missing something? Philip
  8. I am using the Blackhawk double stack mag pouches for my PPQ magazines. I love them. They have a curved plastic insert that hods the magazine tight, yet it pulls out with hardly any effort.
  9. OK. I got my Glock 17 recoils springs and am about to install one. The G17 springs are 2 pcs., looks like an inner & outer. Should I install both in the SR-9, or just the outer? Thanks again.
  10. Thanks to all for you replies. I just ordered a 12 & a 14 lb. Wolff G17 spring. After the upcoming SC & NC IDPA State Matches, I'll give them a try & post the results. Thanks again to a great bunch.
  11. Hello all, After reading this post, I'm hoping you guys may be able to help me. I've been shooting my SR-9 for about a year now in IDPA. I've been using WWB ammo, and it's been flawless. This past weekend I tested some reloads,(147 gr. FMJ RN @ 850 fps), and had some Failure To Ejects, about 1 in 10. If I read some of your posts correctly, you're using Glock recoil springs in the SR-9? If that's the case, can you recommend what would be a slightly lighter one than the standard SR-9 spring? Thanks in advance for your help. Philip
  12. Just got back from shooting the SC IDPA State Match, where I won a Ruger SR-9. This is my first 9mm. Been shooing CDP & SSR, & been reloading for both. I have a couple of what might seem like crazy questions on reloading the 9mm. 1- In SSR I was loading with .357 Magnum cases, & switched to .38 Spl cases to enhance reloads. I had a large stock of small pistol magnum primers, and after getting advice from a couple of different forums, I wound up using the magnum primers in the .38 cases with no issues. So, since I still have a large stock of magnum primers, the question is has anyone used magnum primers in reloading 9mm? Am I asking for trouble? 2- I also have a large stock of Berry's .38 special 158 gr. round nose plated double struck bullets sized to .357. Has anyone used .357 bullets instead of .356 in the 9mm? Or am I asking for even more trouble? I'll be using Universal Clays powder. Thanks in advance for your help.

  14. The numbers you are looking for are here: IDPA Forum You'll see that not only are the number of revolver shooters increasing, but the percentage of match is increasing, too. So it looks good for us wheel gunners, as long as they keep making bullets for them.
  15. I just got back from shooting SSR in the SC State Match. I shoot CDP & SSR on a regular basis at my local club, but the revolver is my favorite. I got to wondering if revolvers were becoming more or less popular in IDPA, so I looked at all the major matches shot so far this year and compared them to last year. Lo and behold: Number of revolver shooters MATCH------------2007-----2008 SC State-------------6--------15 Badlands-----------10--------12 Frozen Penguin----8--------12 S & W---------------52-------45 LA State-------------4--------15 VA Indoor-----------5---------5 Tri-States-----------0--------10 AZ State-------------2---------8 Mountain Valley----6---------6 Coastal Bend-------4---------5 AL State-------------1---------7 NJ State-------------8--------13 Totals--------------106-------153 I don't know what happened at the S&W, but we (wheelgunners) are looking at almost a 50% increase over last year. I'm loving it, because I'll be shooting my revolver until it falls apart, and would like to be competing with it just as long.
  16. I shoot SSR with a Dan Wesson 15-2, Comp-Tac N-Frame kydex holster, & K-Frame Comp-3 speedloaders.
  17. Update: I received my Comp-Tac N-frame holster the other day and with just a little adjusting on the 3 tension screws, I got a great fit for my DW 15-2. The top screw needed to be tightened due to the smaller frame and cylinder, and the bottom 2 needed to be loosened due to the barrel underlug on the DW being bigger than that on the N-frame Smith. So, anyone using a DW .357 who wants a good molded holster for competition or carry, the Comp-Tac N-frame holster will fit fit the bill perfectly. Philip
  18. Thanks for all your responses. I read on 2 other forums from 2 different people with N-frame Comp-Tac holsters that they can tighten them down enough to hold L-frames. Since the DW 15-2 is about a half a hair bigger than an L-frame, I just ordered an N-frame Comp-Tac. I'll post again after I receive it and try it with the DW. Philip
  19. I am currently using a 4" DW 15-2 to shoot SSR in IDPA. I am using a DeSantis Speed Scabbard, which works well. I would, however, like to switch over to one of the molded holsters from Fobus or Blade-Tech. I contacted both companies and both responded that they don't make one for the DW. The Speed Scabbard I am now using is the model made for the S&W L-frame. I am wondering if anyone knows if I would get a good fit in a molded holster made for the L-frame, Python, or possibly something else. Thanks.
  20. I have an opportunity to pick up a bunch of 125 gr. LRN bullets at a ridiculously low price. They are sized to .355 I know .38/.357 should use bullets sized to .357/.358. My question is, will I run into any problems loading the .355 bullets in .357 mag? I will be loading in the 1000-1050 fps range, and shooting them in a 4" Dan Wesson model 15-2, just for punching paper in our local league. Thanks in advance for any help. Philip
