I have just gotten my new 550 and am nervous( for some reason) about setting it up . I am as far as setting up the primer system and have stopped. Is it possible to use old removed primers when trying to get the system set up so I am not risking a primer popping if it is not set up properly ??? Thanks TCF

Is S&W still the best place to get a Ti cylinder for the 625 ?? TCF

Oh Well , I was just considering being able to set up a pistol without ending up with a drawer full of bits that I don't want in the first place. Back to the drawing board and off to look for a 25 frame . I wish I still had access to the gunshows in Ontario . Time to trudge through the classifieds and papers. TCF

If you are looking for a good pre-loved 625 I can suggest checking te classifieds here . T here were a couple great opportunities but I am in Canada so can't avail of the great offerings , or just post what you are looking for and await the offers and don't forget the local gunshows.

I was considering a project since the winter is almost here and we only have an outdoor range (you guys do know that you are all a bad influence---and thank-you ) I would like to cobble together a 625 with a 6.5 barrel and updated bits ( my best friend is a pistol smith here in Canada) to this end I was wondering if it is possible to just buy a Frame from S&W with the serial # and nothing else . That way I don't have to take a perectly good gun and rip it down and build up a newer better faster gun . I figured I check here with you all first before I go and beat my head on the walls of S&W just to see if anyone else thought and tried this approach with limited or no sucess? Thanks TCF

One thing that everyone seems to agree on is hat the Ti cylinders cut down on th problem of peening but may add the problem of destroying the CS if it is MIM . Would it be possible to have both the cylinder and the Cylinder Stop made from Ti ??????? Just a thought ? TCF

I am in the middle of setting up my 625 and there is an amazing number of mainspring weights and return spring weights to set up in dozens of combinations. While it is baffeling to a new shooter to find the right combination for a great set-up ,I was wondering if there is a chart either from the manufactuer or a fellow shooter that will tell you the outcome of a certain combination .For example if you use a full power mainspring and a 13lb return than you will have a 8lb DA trigger pull. This would really narrow down the search for a good trigger weight . Any help is appreciated The Cod Father

just a slight drift but has anyone tried using coiled springs in a 625 instead of the main flat power spring? tcf

At th moment I'm shooting a lead 230gn RN that I cast myself and still use the liquid alox lube . The only time I had any smoke issues was when I was using up some older Win 231 powder . I was glad the wind was across the range and not down or I would have never made a second shot on target.

HI Scotty, Welcome to the 625 Club and nice to have you . Just on a personal note with your choice of model, the PC 625 is a nice gun however you have aleady decided to send it to Randy for work ,correct? Well the base model is not setup for moonclips as the PC version is , but the next level model is set up for them . The PC version has gone through the shop for some tweeking and trigger work and inside smoothing etc . Isn't this the same stuff that you want Randy to do so why pay for it twice .The other thing is the PC has the JM grips and you can order them for $60ish if you want them so why pay hundreds more for smithwork you are going to have redone and a set of grips you can get later for less tan the PC price's .
