  1. Greg answered my PM...
    Greg,

Fred and I are confused by this:

    A/B – 0, C – minus 2, D – minus 4

This means that a A or B hit is worth 0 seconds to your time, but...a C hit adds 2 seconds and a D hit adds four seconds? So...if you had two D hits on paper, you would be a plus eight seconds?

Are we reading this wrong? If our take on this scoring is correct, please provide a means to withdraw an application with a full refund, as this late rule change is not conducive with the concept of practical shooting. I will probably show up anyway, but Fred is not interested in playing under that sort of draconian system.

    Thanks,

    Alex

    You are correct.

Contact Austin at austin@laruetactical.com and he will refund your match fee.

    Greg

So to carry this out further...this means that a "A/D" is worth plus FOUR seconds, while a "A/miss" is worth plus FIVE seconds.

Better bring the 3-9, Benny, because the only "tactical" in this match is the one in LaRue's business name :roflol:

    Alex

Well I guess that's what I get for thinking, eh?

Thanks for the clarification, it may make a difference in how practice goes.

  2. Of course if you read the scoring carefully, it says "MINUS 2" for C and "MINUS 4" for D. So does that mean a C or D hit will actually reduce my overall time? :D If so, that'll be awesome! I can rack up D's all day long. :goof:

 thats sharp , <_< I want to be on your squad

Not sure, but I think the minus 2 and minus 4 means points, with point value measured in time added to overall time simlar to IDPA scoring, only a little less forgiving.

Could be wrong though, it may be in seconds added. Either way it'll be a hoot.

  3. I don't think getting decent turnout to a new 3-gun match in your area would be a problem.

It sounds as though you have a great facility and props.

Getting with Jeff, David, Michael, and SFC Johnson, (Slowsure is another good one) for advice is a really good idea too.

Since you are planning on holding it in summer, why not sign up to shoot either Blueridge, or the upcoming Larue tactical match. It might help to illustrate and put in context some of the advice you get from the experienced multigun MDs.

Good luck with it. If I can, I'll certainly come participate and or work.

  4. It may have been lack of lube, or that may have been a contibuting factor but for sure the sand clay stuff at Ft Benning isn't good for a SG, even a Bennelli. I know this because mine puked this past Friday after I picked up a couple of shells that had fallen from the sidesaddle into the red stuff and crammed them into my mag tube. This folly was of course immediatley (and appropriately) rewarded by a SG that pretty much quit working right. After cleaning out the tube AND oiling it, it worked without issue the rest of the match.

I may have to oil it down real well and stuff it full of clay and sand to see if it was the lack of oil or the addition of sand stuff to know for sure. Or Not.

  5. regarding D zones being a miss, if a scoring system is going to allow it I feel the D zone should simply be removed from the target, that solves that problem without a different scoring system, if you have it to shoot at it should count for something even if its a minus.

    Trapr

Just look at the "D" zone as a big a$$ tab for attaching the target to the sticks. If you get rid of it the target will be too skinny and we'd also have to redesign target stands. It could still be called a D for "didn't"....score.

  6. Todd,

We're not just in this for the sport you know. We've got to take this stuff seriously in case your at Wal-mart trying to buy the last XBox when a group of B.G.'s roll up and cause you to flip the trench coat back, unsling the AR from it's special holster....Wait a minute, just another bad dream. Seriously though I'm looking forward to another great match put on by Tapp, Webb and Wiggins. Kinda sounds like a law firm huh? See ya soon.

I hear ya brother. I keep trying to tell myself this isn't a game its training. I sit in suspense every night watching the evening news to see who was recently attacked by a piece of brown cardboard.

I heard that. Who in their right mind would consider engaging targets targets with a carbine (or blaster if you prefer) training. I mean how relevent is target discrimination, target to target transitions, speed of engagement and measured accuracy while shooting on the move or from behind cover to the martial use of a carbine/blaster? Thats just silly, if that were the case all the big name firearms trainers would be teaching those skills. Wouldn't they? Would they teach/train a different sight alignment, sight picture, trigger press, and follow through for a brown cardboard target as opposed to say.... godzilla? Probably not, but they might advise having the 20 mags. LOL

    See y'all Saturday,

    Mike

  7. To distinguish between "prizes" and "rewards" when they are all on the same table is lame. They are all rewards when distributed by order of finish. An individual may choose a coffee cup over a camelback, or a case of ammo over a gun. Whatever. Value is relative and can be determined by the person making the choice. So one may choose their reward/prize from what is on the table based upon their performance.

  8. I've owned three different Springfield Armory M1A scope mounts over the years, but not one exactly like yours. From the pictures it looks like it ought to be rock solid.

If you are getting consistant sized groups and consistant group placement each time you take it out without fooling with the adjustments it ought to be GTG.

I'd run with it unless there were issues.

  9. I take it that we are talking heavy metal. I really like Trapr's setup. If I were shooting an AR in HM, I would run a cryo'd 20 in barrel with carbon fiber or VTAC handguard. I can't say cryo is needed but I have had great luck with every cryo'd barrel that I've ever shot, I can't say the same for non-cryo'd. was it the cryo? or the voodoo? Don't know. But if planning on shooting irons, you want all the sight radius you can get. Even a 22 inch barrel might be a good idea.

If you are planning on shooting a scope, I'd shoot an 18 in barrel or even shorter.

As for the stock? Completely irrelevant as to performance as long as it does not break! I like the ACE but then again I like the standard A1 and A2 stocks. Since you are shooting irons you might want to consider an A1 length stock.

But all you Heavy Metalers beware, I just got my new FAL! bwawahahahahahahaha!

What type FAL set up do you use? Are you using the stock sight base or have you found a good way to mount the front sight farther out on the barrel? Do you use the DSA ff tube or some other? What barrel length?

  10. This is a Very Good match! If you have the time, make this one you will not be disappointed.

Unfortunately I have family commitments and cant make this one  Will try again in Nov.

Good luck David and all the shooters!

+1 on this being a good match. I hate it that you aren't coming, don't let the rest of your crew forget.

Speaking of good matches, there used to be one somewhere up in middle TN, a multi-gun it was, run by a guy named Alan something or other. I heard he sold off all of his guns and became Baptist preacher because he liked fried chicken more than shooting. Is that true?????

    Mike

    BUTTONS! :goof:

Just a quick shout out to you! The girl from the EAST COAST may be making a road trip for this one!

Come on down!! It'll be fun. No, it'lll be run n'gun fun. No wait, run n'gun fun in the sun. No wait, a ton of run n'gun fun in the sun. Yes indeed, we'll have a ton of run n'gun fun in the sun 'til its done. And.. since the parson ain't comin', there will be no shortage of yardbird in the Magic City.

Hey David, here's a chance to put the 300 yard offhand flashers on the clock to practice for Princeton. What a hoot that'd be, eh?

  12. In general I enjoyed the match. Certainly there's room for improvement, but that could be said any event ever held.

Specifically though, I liked the challenge of the long range rifle stages and hope to see more of this type here and elsewhere in the future.

CTI remains on my "must shoot" match list for next year.

Many thanks too, for the hard work of the ROs and match staff and for the generosity of the sponsors.

    Mike

  13. There is no reason to limit magazine capacity. There are lots of ways to negate the advantage of long or short, or fat, or wide magazines. It can and should be done through good stage design. Movement, oddball shotting postions, challenging barricades, etc. can all be used to good effect. Or, just write a mandatory reload into the stage description.

The mag capacity subject was beat to death last year by the way.

  14. I just dont see that ANY changes in rules will have an effect on growing the sport... you like shooting it, or you dont.

It could have an impact on a specific match...but not the sport in general

... I think a consistency in the equipment rules can help the sport grow.

Say you were "selling" this sport to someone. You have Product A:

You have to buy an 8 rd tube for this match. You have to buy a 9+ tube for this here match and this here match. You can't use this positioning of your mag pouches here. But you can at this match. You have to buy this type of magazine to be optimally competitive. But you can't use those magazines at this match. So you gotta buy this set of magazines here. The let you use auto's here but not here and here...

    Vs. Product B:

... All you have to do is buy X. It's good for all matchs for your selected division.

Which product is easier to sell?

What would be wrong with buying the equipment that YOU want to use and if it is illegal or impractical for some match just don't go.

If you really, really want to go, contact one of the wonderful sponsors, order what you need and drive on. Its just that simple.

Here's an idea though for rules unification, require all major matches to recognize Trooper class, then you can use whatever equipment you have, problem solved.
