  1. DT, You might ask them to further define "major parts breakage". Sending it back to Springfield, in this case, isn't defining. As I understand it, Springfield isn't sending any part out...the average joe (even the above average gun shop) just can't get them. Thus, any little thing...gotta send the gun in. That in itself may be reason enough. M&P parts can be had from Brownell's. I heard that this isn't the case anymore. Granted, this is just what I've heard, but I've been told that some parts are now available. Can anybody confirm this?
  2. Very interesting... I just went to Gander Mt. and handled both of them and I have to tell you, the XD felt and looked like it was more solid and built to last. The M&P's slide was loose to the point where it moved away from the frame almost 1/8". AND that's the second M&P I've seen do this. Has anybody else had problems w/ XD's. Thanks
  3. Yes, I do. I find it therapeutic I've "heard", on various websites, guys complain that the .40 is a little snappy. Snappy as in a sharp snappy recoil instead of solid .45 recoil. I'm sure this depends on the gun and the load you're shooting but has anyone found this to be true? Haven't quite made up my mind whether to go 9 or .40.
  4. More to the story... I've shot an XD (.45) and didn't really like it. Just didn't aim well for me. I've handled the M&P as of yesterday and like the feel of it. However, on the one I handled, the slide seemed loose on the frame - particularly at the end of the muzzle. I asked the guy behind the counter about it and he said that most of the polymer pistols are like that.
  5. If I'm shooting in production or L10, is there any advantage of .40 vs. 9mm? Thanks for the replies so far.
  6. Title says it all. Just looking for opinions.
  7. Patrick- Did you write the AR book by Gun Digest? Because I have it! And that's really cool!
  8. Very funny... but actually my thoughts exactly! This is basically just something to get by with until I can get my hands on something a little better. I did actually find some spare mags at a local gun show. Who'd a thunk it? It is definitely not the most accurate weapon in the world. I think I had BB guns as a kid that were probably more accurate. Thanks for the comments.
  9. I'm new to practical shooting and plan on using the only autoloader that I have to get started. Its a Norinco Tokarev 213 in 9mm. Not the greatest weapon in the world but its what I've got for now. I'm wondering if anybody knows anything about this pistol or has worked on them to crisp the trigger, lighten the main spring, etc. Any info or help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  10. Finally got a chance to cut the furniture. Cutting the stock went flawlessly. Set up a fence on a band saw and went to town - clean up the edges w/ a buffing wheel on a dremel. Now for the recoil pad... I cut the "inside" down so that it would fit into the stock. (By saying "inside", I mean the portion that fits into the stock. It had to be cut in order to fit into the stock. etc.) However, I cut it down to the point where there is no "plate" on the inner portion of the pad now. (you can see the inside of the recoil pad) I don't know if this going to be a real problem. I don't think it will be. Next step is to cut down the screws and sand down the overhang of the pad and... voila! If I'm unhappy with the recoil pad, anybody got any good ideas on a replacement?
  11. Anybody seen one of these? I saw it in the new '07 Rem catalogue. Looks like they just brought back the CM w/ black furniture.
  12. I took a look at Remington's new '07 catalogue and saw the 1100 TAC-4. Looks like the CM w/ black furniture. Anybody got any info?
  13. Thanks fellas. Will report back when the task is done.
  14. I believe it is a 1911 style pistol. I'm sorry I don't have more info but I don't even have the pistol in my possession at this time. It sat around in my Dad's gun closet for a couple of years. I've gotten back into shooting and want to try practical shooting. Its the only thing I have that will work for IPSC style shooting at this time. Nonetheless, its being to shipped to me at this time. I'm eager to get it and see what I can do with it. Thanks
  15. "slick them up" = work on the trigger to lighten it up, lighten the main spring, recoil spring adapted to fire light loads, etc.
  16. I'm looking to shorten my factory stock on my 1100 CM (the synthetic grey furniture). Anybody able to help w/ how to 1) get the stock off and 2) cut it down? Thanks
  17. I have a cheap 9mm norinco pistol that I plan on using for getting started in practical shooting. Anybody know anything about these? anybody know how to slick them up? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks
  18. Took it out again, for the second time today, and shot 2 boxes of 3 1/4 dram #8. (Just shot some skeet to break it in a little.) Didn't have one hiccup. Performed flawlessly. I think when it did jam that first time, they were light loads (2 3/4 dram) and it was straight out of the box. So far, I really like this gun. Very manageable recoil, relatively light weight, lots of info out there on it... and it looks pretty cool too. And it sure is a heck of lot more affordable than a Benelli!
  19. Just picked up a 1100CM for 3 gunning and have learned a lot from you guys here on the forum. It had 3 shells put through it before I got it so it definitely needs some breaking in. I took it out to bust some clays on Christmas Eve and had a few mishaps. Shells didn't extract after being fired - this happened 2 or 3 times. The last time it happened, I couldn't extract it by hand. My buddy and I tried for about 5 min. and finally gave up. I did get it out fairly easy later on that day back at home. Now, I've picked up that it definitely needs to be broken in a little and lubed (w/ synthetic motor oil - thanks George). I've also heard somebody say to take extremely fine sand paper (2000 grit) and polish the mag tube. Sounds like fairly good advice but... I'm not sure where exactly to lube. I know to lube the "gas system", but what all makes up the "gas system"? O-ring, piston, and... If somebody has pics they could post or a link to some, I sure would appreciate it. Also, what do guys think of the fine sand paper? I'm really enjoying this forum and my new 1100! Thanks for all the help guys.
  20. Soft recoil, easy handling, very nice... except for a couple of jams. A couple of times, after the gun had fired, it didn't extract the shell. I've heard of this happening with reduced loads (whatever they may be) and when the 1100 is new. So... if anybody has any suggestions, I'd gladly listen. Does anybody know what kind of loads the 1100 likes? Can I do anything (lube or clean parts) to help this? Thanks BTW, I took the gun almost completely apart last night to clean/lube. It was fun.
  21. I started this thread on Monday. Monday night, I found a near mint 1100 CM for sale locally for $600. (The guy shot it one time - put three shells through it and got into bench shooting.) Needless to say, I bought it on Tuesday night. Its ready to go right out of the box... and I can't wait to take it out tomorrow.
  22. First of all, great thread - please keep it going. I just bought a mint 1100 CM and am very excited to take it out. Plan on using it for 3-gun (I'm new to 3-gun) and wonder about some of the things in this thread. George, what do you consider "detergent" motor oil? What does the EZ loader do? Gene S. - what is that speed loader and where can I get one?!? That looks awesome! Anybody have any suggestions for the 1100 CM? (the grey stock 3 gun machine) Thanks
  23. In the market to buy a good semi-auto for practical shooting, personal defense, and a little fun. My question is this: should I get a Remmie 1100 or Winchester SX2 practical? Why? Reliability? Weight? Personal preference? Please share your thoughts.
  24. I'm a bit of a newbie and am about to buy my first AR - either a classic 20" A2 or 16" M4 A3. I want both so I figure whichever one I get, I'll just save up and the buy the other upper in the future. Anyway, my question is, if you had to choose between DPMS or Bushmaster, which would you choose? I've shot a Bushmaster before which I liked but the DPMS seem a little less expensive - granted, not by much, but a little goes a long way when you're young and married with a 2 yr old. I've got to stretch my money as far as it will go basically. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  25. I've enjoyed hearing all the talk about shotgun types and the different opinions on each of them. (There are a lot of opinions!) Would any of you guys be willing to post pictures of your gear. I'm a visual guy - it would be nice to put a picture with some of the guns you guys have been talking about. And please comment more on barrel length - advantages, disadvantages, different divisions, etc. Thanks from a new shooter.
