Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. You guys are great; thanks for your responses! Oh, the choices! It's always tough to pick just one when you don't have a lot of discretionary $$$ right now! I really want one of each! I've been doing a lot of thinking about my choices lately. My thoughts are that I'll probably get an SP-01 and shoot production and/or limited (minor) for awhile. I doubt I'll be competitive on points anyway since I'm a beginner. Just shoot and have a lot of fun and learn the sport. As I gain more knowledge (and hopefully have a bit more $), then I'll be able to make a more informed choice on a TRUE limited gun. I must say that the ARMSCOR .40 1911-A2 model is also nagging at me as a choice! I know it's low-end, but I could trick it out over time. Any thoughts on this gun? MATT, I recently shot an SP-01 that you tuned for a guy named Craig here in the Salt Lake City area. Man, was that gun SUH-WEET. The trigger was smooth and it shot like a pimped-out Caddie...nice and easy! I HAVE to have one! IF and when I pick up an SP-01, I'd like to send it to you for a tuneup.
  2. Basically, I'm trying to get ideas for a "CHEAP" (is there such a thing?) way into the Limited Division! :rollin Any ideas? I don't really want to go G35 (everybody has one!) I'm considering going with the Armscor (Para clone) or the CZ75SA in .40 cal. I am thinking about one of these CZ75SA .40 for USPSA Limited Class competition. Unfortunately, I don't have the scratch for a CZ TS right now. Are any of you currently competing with one of these in Limited right now? I know it's probably a better L-10 gun, but wondering if I could be competitive in Limited with add-on basepads and such. I know the mags that come with these are rated at 12. What is the most capacity any of you have been able to get into this gun and still be within the 140mm(?) rule? Also, would love to see photos of this gun with mods such as blown magwells, various sights, etc. So show me what ya got!
  3. HINT HINT to Springfield Armory.... If SA would use the XD45 frame and make it in .40 cal, it might have enough capacity to make it a legit Limited division gun. Capacity is the only reason I have not purchased an XD yet! But I will probably still get one for use as a plinker/defense gun anyhow! As far as which one to shoot..... go with the one you shoot best!
  4. There is one listed on gunbroker.com. search "armscor" Thank you nphd2000.... Another Question: Those of you that own Armscor and RIA products.... Who does the warranty work? If one experiences a problem with their product, must one send the firearm all the way back to the Philippines? Have any of you had any major problems with their products? If so, how did they take care of the problem? Thanks in advance!
  5. I am thinking about getting a gun for USPSA Limited division. I've considered CZ and Witness. Paras and S_I's are not in my budget and the M-5 doesn't fit in my hand very well. Nor do the Glocks. Where can I get a hold of one of these Armscor .40 cal hi-cap models? How much are they going for now? Thanks, Kevin <fishbeafraid@juno.com>
  6. Now you guys are swaying me toward the SP-01. OOOOOHHH, the choices!!! Now to decide whether to go with the decocker version or the manaul version, standard or Shadow version. The decocker version seems very convenient. But my guess is that the standard version has a better trigger out of the box? Correct me if I'm wrong. Are the 'smiths able to do a decent trigger job on the decocker model?
  7. Exactly. If I wasn't thinking about ALSO shooting Limited, I wouldn't care about the capacity (since production is only 10rds). Unfortunately, never had a chance to hold an SP-01, so may be going blind on a purchase. Does it really feel that much different than a 75/85? As far as the mags, I am aware that switching to SP-01 mags would be illegal in production. Thanks! I've thought hard about the 75SA, however it would preclude me from shooting in Production. Might have to get one later on though! 45, you are swaying me toward the 85C, unless I go for the SP-01. How do you like the Tactical model? Do you think it is better than the standard issue SP-01? Or do you wish you bought it without the decocker?
  8. I definitely think retaining the mags is a hindrance too! The only 75b's I've seen with drop free mags are in .40cal....no 9mm's that I've seen yet. Thanks guys.
  9. Does flattening the mag spring in a CZ75b or changing it to the one found in the 85 Combat disqualify the firearm from USPSA production? I just don't understand why the 75b does NOT have drop free mags like the 85Combat.
  10. Hi Folks, I'm looking to get my first handgun in the next couple weeks. I've narrowed it down to a CZ, but not sure which model just yet. I was thinking the 75B, 85 Combat, or SP01. The fact that the 85C does not have a hammer-block safety makes me a bit concerned, however, this gun would not be used for carry. It would be a range gun. I am thinking about shooting USPSA Production and possibly Limited (minor) later on in the summer once I feel comfortable with the pistol. I'm leaning toward the SP-01 because of it's capacity. Would the decocker (tactical model) be better than the standard SA/DA model? Which model would you choose and why? I'm also open to suggestion about other handguns as well. I'm not too hot on Glocks because they just don't quite feel right in my hands. Thanks!
